Just as significant as the W-L record is the fact that seven of those 10 games were played against ranked opponents.

Funny looking back to the first week of the season when the media narrative was how poor the SEC looked.

SEC once again establishes its dominance. Probably why Florida got a #6 ranking ahead of a Oklahoma team with the same record that was in the CFP.

    SEC: 8-2
    ACC: 4-7
    Big 12: 1-5
    Big 10: 4-5
    Pac-12: 4-3

Who cares about the rest. Surprisingly, the PAC-12 is the only other conference with a winning record. Probably because they didn't play any SEC teams. I have an OSU buddy who spent all year telling me that the SEC was overrated and the Big 10 was a much better league. He was sure OSU would roll LSU in the CFP. Not surprisingly, I haven't heard from him in a couple weeks.

Big 12 sucks, nobody in that conference plays any defense. Some HC from defense side should move there, I would think they will be very successful.

What a joke that conference is. Clem’s son should be penalized 6 places just for playing such a garbage schedule. They played two good teams all year-OSU and LSU— and lost to one and should have lost to the other.

What part of a preseason poll has to do with 1st week results and what people were saying?

The bottom half of the SEC looked terrible in the first week or two. Multiple commentaries were made despite that the top half looked great.

The media and fans will jump at the slightest notion the SEC could be down

This is the kind of thing that will kill CFB popularity in the long run. There’s already SEC fatigue + the other half dozen elites. Parity is much better for sports IMO.

Like I said, I don’t remember at this point. Seems like you do, although I guess I’ll just take your word for it since you haven’t shown any evidence that’s the case.

Not really possible due to demographics of the US and financing at most schools.

That and getting taken behind the woodshed in their playoff game against LSU.

Are you saying their boosters won't "work" as hard to put a winning product on the field. Methinks OSU has the SEC script.

OSU is part of the half dozen I mentioned. And I mean legal methods. Many programs don’t,and can’t, have the same athletic budgets to compete and draw recruits by showing dedication to the program.

It is a problem. I'm not sure of a solution. It is becoming more and more a case of the rich getting richer. Parity and competitiveness in football is a long, long way away from what it is in basketball.

I realize the bowl records aren't a perfect measure of conference strength - but just to add some additional data:

SEC bowl teams conference winning % = .687
SEC bowl team opp conf winning % = .732 (and all were power 5 teams)

So SEC teams were matched with teams which had comparably performed better within their own conference. In two out of three cases, SEC teams with losing records in their own conference beat teams with winning records within other conferences.

If you remove LSU, the SEC still went 6-2 with the SEC teams only representing a .609 conference winning % v their opponents .681.

In summary, if you look at recruiting, draft picks, rankings, bowl results and now the CFP winner - the empirical evidence is VERY strong in support of the SEC. Which is a surprise to no one here.
