While we were watching our elections and the Ukraine War the Iran parliament voted to execute 15,000 Iranian protesters - mostly women. I never noticed.

Iran protesters refuse to back down as 15,000 face execution

In response the brave UN is holding a meeting to consider kicking them off the Women’s Rights Commission - the leading body on world wide womens rights.

The UN is a full-fledged Mickey Mouse operation. To anyone who throws around the words "stunning and brave" every time a woman in this country dyes her hair green and gets in a man's face because he exists, shut up. Just shut up.

This is about Iranian protesters now on death row and the lack of international action. UN is a wuss agreed but start your own incel thread about American women somewhere else with your “like” buddies.

Not an incel. Just a man who admires truly brave women.

Seems like a wildly inaccurate thread title given what the article actually says. Though the article itself basically makes a leap to "death penalty" to, despite writing this:

Added the word “face” to the thread title to reflect the article title.

God forbid that this happens. It does seem like we've had some influence on the official Iranian government behind the scenes. We got a statement at least of uncertain enforceability, that they are going to stop supplying the Russians. That is at least some progress. I'm surprised that they would do this and risk the wrath of the world. They must view the current protests as an existential threat

We’re trying to squeeze war vs Iran in between Russia and China. I don’t think we can sanction Iran more than we already are.

So is this enough to convince some of you that this is not a regime you enter into “deals” with? These are awful, duplicitous people running that otherwise wonderful and beautiful country, and the only reason they are not even worse is that they lack the power, not the the will, to be even worse.

If they had a 2nd amendment and those women were armed this would not be so easy for the Iranian officials.

Put the money we are planning to give the IRGC as tribute into military aid for the resistance, and guns they will have.

Well, that’s the Islamic Regime’s understanding of equal rights: a man’s game charges a man’s price. They’re probably clapping themselves on the back for being egalitarian enough to execute women for rebellion.

(Yes, of course, that’s sarcasm; I’m disgusted by this)

It’s right up there with the nuclear deal. Might as well put them on the Security Counsel, while we’re at it.

From what I understand of Iranian culture, it is a huge deal for the bazaars to close. One of the early indicators of a loss of confidence in the Shaw was the bazaars closing in protest. The Revolutionary government had to grant them a lot of concessions and guarantee their continued independence to get them to open again. As I recall, it was a plot point in the James Clavell novel Whirlwind about the Revolution.

You obviously know more about that particular aspect of Persian culture than do I.

What I interpreted these specific bazaar protests as meaning was to signal to the regime that they were not backing down as the execution sentence was pronounced. Obviously we should never presume they will not go through with mass execution. But I think they thought that merely announcing that "sentence" would stop the protests as an act of intimidation.

In that regard, I think the protesters are making a point that they are not to be cowed. Good for them. I would hope I would have the same courage in the same situation.
