Ford faces internal pressure to end production of police-spec vehicles [Updated]

Not long ago, this would be a fast track to the unemployment line. If you work in a Ford plant and don't like making cars for cops, start your own damn car company. You can make them for whomever you want. Ford quality is not impressive enough that they can turn down gov't contracts and survive. They have already been forced to give up making most of the cars they had been making.

NEWSFLASH: The cars are not what is causing the racial injustice or police violence. It's the driver. And Ford does not make the driver, just the cars.

What next? A call for Ford to make more getaway cars?

Silly request, I can't imagine it will end up changing a thing, of course.
I also don't see why anyone should be fired for raising the question.

Dump the 100 employees - plenty of people needing jobs right now that would love a high paying, union auto working position.

Well thought out, arguably intelligent post until you just had to toss that last sentence in there.

Or just tell them no. No reason to fire employees for complying with what Ford asked and stating their opinions. That's more likely to backfire, and it's just petty behavior.

Just out of curiosity why should the employees be canned? They expressed an opinion they didn't threaten any type of job action.

I believe that the 85,000 number is very low. If memory serves it is more like 175,000.

Can someone please explain to me how 100 out of even 85,000 wanting something can become news. I wouldn't even think that something like this could make the Ford website or Car & Driver.

In my company these employees would be escorted over to the couch where Muhammad, Jugdesh, and Sidney are seated!

The employees embarrassed the management, and also questioned their judgment. It's also an indication that the workers are torn between the idea of making halfway decent cars and social justice. Ford probably would prefer that the workers were 100% committed on making quality cars and do their social justice thing on their own time and without dragging the brand through the mud. They probably weren't hired to be social justice warriors at Ford.

As long as they keep making the F-150, I don't care.

So Ford when asks “employees to come forward with suggestions for addressing racial and social injustice,” and group does just that, you think they should be fired?

    Ok...

They didn’t just come up with a suggestion. They gave the company a deadline to act on it. I still wouldn’t fire them at this point but I can see why some would. we’ll see what the employees do when the deadline hits. Whoever leaked it should be fired if they know who it is.

The suggestion was to take the proposed action by July 15. A deadline suggests some kind of threat. Did they say they were going do something to hurt the company if nothing happened by July 15?

If you fire workers for offering suggestions that you have actively solicited, you’re going to have a tough time attracting and retaining talent. Maybe that’s why companies like Ford are getting left in the dust.
