"Don't doubt for one skinny minute that her remarks are precisely what she feels."

I don't, it confirms what I've contended on this forum numerous times.

Yeah, making a hostile or demeaning comment then adding a disclaimer stating the comment is a joke is not an uncommon practice on this board. But if you think it is "following the script in the liberal playbook," you are sadly mistaken. Having pointed it out numerous times on this very forum, I am acutely aware of this despicable practice, and I have observed the great majority of the time it comes from right wingers mocking liberals. If you think only the left does this you are fooling yourself.

    I think you're misunderstanding me.

You stated that things would be different if a Muslim were the butt of the joke, implying that liberals would get all hot and bothered if someone dared to pick fun at a minority.

In reality, the difference would not be the liberals (who generally take humor in stride), but instead the conservatives, who cry foul in this thread, but would happily take to berating any Muslims that dared to be offended by something that poked fun at their religion. Liberals, at least on this board, are pretty consistent in recognizing humor for what it is. Meanwhile, conservatives are happy to dish out, but loath to receive.

I respectfully disagree. Just because they want to hear voices, doesn't mean there are actually external voices. It's all inner monologue, not inner dialogue. At the end of the day, there is no telepathic voice being beamed inside their head from some invisible sky world. It's creepy, IMO, to tell people you have a hotline in your head that you get direct communications from the great beyond. Replace "Jesus" with literatlly anything else, and you would say that person is crazy.

Zueses was talking to me and he helped me write this speech. The great Ju-Ju up the mountain was telling me about how needed to accomplish a set of tasks. I was having a convo in my head with the flying spaghetti monster and he told me exactly where to find the lost city of Atlantis and how to raise it from the depths.

    Sounds pretty damn crazy, eh?

Possibly grinning because she has an opportunity to pass off as a joke what she is thinking, or wants others to think, and skate on the repercussions.

Years ago the mental health guidelines did classify spiritually attuned people who "heard" God's voice as mentally ill. That classification was changed when it was observed they lacked other necessary markers or symptoms of schizophrenia.

"Tolerance" doesn't mean that you give all beliefs equal credit, it's that you don't interfere with a person's right to have those beliefs, or discriminate against them for being different than you are.

Plenty of Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, atheists, and people of all stripes in between believe in some crazy nonsense. I have no problem with calling a spade a spade. But I'm not going to say that anyone should be treated differently just because of what they believe. Everyone deserves equal treatment until their beliefs turn into actions that start negatively impacting others.

Yes. That does sound crazy b/c it is so arbitrary & would have to be made up specifically by that person. Belief in major religions seems far less crazier to me.

I was raised as a Christian, everyone I knew was a Christian. It seemed crazy to not believe.

In accepting Trump's request to be his VP, becoming part of the Trump team / administration, Pence tacitly endorses Trump and indicates acceptance or approval of Trump's immoral behavior. I see that as a mockery of the faith Pence confesses.

It's not that "small." A "very small" portion is especially offensive, intentionally antagonizing their political opposites and posting how it pleases them to be that way. Most of the worst are right wingers.

I think that's an idea heavily filtered though Protestantism (Weber's The Protestant Ethic) , not necessarily Christianity, whether you want to consider Protestantism a misinterpretation of Jesus' teachings or not.

I understand that point. I think what you are missing though is that liberals are not the butt of the joke. The one offended will often be the butt of the joke. My point is that liberals in the media especially are very quick to pounce on any viewed "intolerance" and I feel that if Joy gets a pass that would be a show of hypocrisy.

I am not offended by the joke at all. Partly because very little "offends" me. I dont play the victim card. But if the joke would be deemed offensive by her employers if it were aimed at Muslims or Gays or Gators or Bulldogs, it should be viewed the same against Christians.

Obviously, Lacuna is within her rights pointing out the irony of the situation.

I disagree completely. I believe David was pretty loyal to a king that was not very Holy on his way to the Jewish crown. Doesn't mean he endorsed his evil side.

Has nothing to do with the thread - is nothing more than bloviating to try and mitigate the hate sewed by the view
