I can't stand Joy Behar, but if you think her comments were completely serious and not intended to be comedy, you may want to watch the clip of The View embedded in the article linked in the OP. She's grinning and the audience is laughing while she says it.

I have no doubt that she legitimately dislikes Pence, and I assume she is probably an atheist who thinks that religion is a bit ridiculous, but the "You hear an invisible man talking to you in your head? That's mental illness." seemed to pretty clearly be an attempt at a cheap laugh line, not an actual assertion that Mike Pence has schizophrenia.

No, but it ridicules the religious beliefs of millions of Americans. Look, opinions are like arseholes, everybody has one. I just don't necessarily think it is good form for me to see it. Additionally, if I owned a company and one of my employees thought it was a hoot to make sarcastic remarks regarding the beliefs of a million or so of my customers, that person would be gone. My gosh, when will the entertainment industry get it?

Cons regularly hurl some of the most vile, acerbic, condescending insults in the lexicon. Yet they curl into the snowflake position and claim unfair persecution when someone makes a joke at their expense.

Sorry, not sorry. Ya'll lost any ground to complain about such things years ago, and that's before you began joyfully electing right wing flame throwers to high office.

The "mental illness" part wasn't necessary. But Pence and other conservative Bible thumpers have made a mockery out of Christian faith through their own words and actions.

It's not good form when the leader of the free world (who also dabbled in the entertainment industry) hops on Twitter and publicly demeans and picks fights with various individuals, either. But alas, here we are.

Yup, 'PC' is ruining America until some comedian jokingly says something about Christianity on day time TV then it turns out not being PC is ruining America.

Multiple conservative posters have asserted in threads over the years that liberalism is a "mental illness" along with poverty and other things.

I had to look up who she is.
So a comedian says something stupid and you guys get triggered?
It was in poor taste and seems disrespectful but the group all upset is the same one that likes to call others snowflake. Funny.

While her ultimate goal--and all the other cackling women on that show as well----is to stir the pot with remarks designed to get a laugh, applause, make points with other off the wall liberals, etc---of course it is but that is only a part of her comment. Don't doubt for one skinny minute that her remarks are precisely what she feels. Based on her history of comments over the years, there is no doubt whatsoever that she feels exactly as she states on The View whether it comes across as a joke to liberals or not.

And she is merely following the script in the liberal playbook--state exactly what you believe, and if any push-back or controversy arises then inject whatever you can to make it appear as a joke or humor, and claim it to be taken out of context. The left has mastered the art of deflecting when their comments are met head on by either the truth or facts. She may have said it to appeal to the left, and in a way which skirt the edge of being a joke--but don't think for a second she didn't mean everything she said.

Deflect much? if Trump made disparaging remarks about the tenets of Christianity you would have a point. Also, Joy could be 110% correct, but it still affects the bottom line of the company she works for. Why is it important for ENTERTAINERS to feel it is necessary to disparage those they are supposed to be ENTERTAINING?

Trump isn't entertaining. Although I do find much entertainment in watching how far he goes up people's rectums.

But...you do understand this would be different had the humor been at a Muslim in our current climate?

Ha! That's the point. I don't because of their political views. Not because they suck as entertainers. They might do that as well, but their rabid political views are off putting. Who knows. Maybe I and several hundred thousand other people would watch if they weren't so polarizing, and their ratings would go up and we would maybe buy whatever the commercials are peddling. You know, good for business.

Behar and Carlin have much different platforms and Behar should be held to the same standard as any other nationally syndicated host.

But Carlin was very clearly quite serious about many of his controversial positions, even if he did frame them in satirical humor. He wasn't just going for laughs - he was making statements.

Why do you care about the ratings of the View? Also, maybe if you and people like you did loyally watch the View, your input about their programming would actually matter. Maybe I think Fox's ratings would go up if they favorably discussed socialism, but I doubt they are going to listen to me, nor should they, since I definitely don't watch Fox and none of my suggestions for their programming are in good faith - because I'm just suggesting they reflect my own preferences, not being constructive. But it turns out, for almost any preference, there is media for you to consume!

If Pence is a model Christian, that's not a good advertisement for Christianity.

I have good news. The invisible hand of the free market will throw her out onto her rear end if she angers the people she's supposed to be entertaining and they stop watching. Problem solved.

It would be very different . . . most of the people on this board that are currently proclaiming victimhood would instead be relentlessly taunting any Muslims that dare be offended, deriding them as crybabies and snowflakes.

Meanwhile, among us resident lefties, how many do you suppose would call foul?
