Hilarious. If Russia never intended to go into Kiev, why was there a mad dash towards Kiev at the outset of the war? We may never know why Russia faltered at the outskirts of Kiev, but I suspect that Putin held back the general that was on the verge of capturing Kiev due to his own paranoia. If the general had invaded Kiev successfully (and with only his own troops present), then he would be a war hero the likes of which Russia had not seen since WWII. Putin would have viewed that as a threat to his leadership. So Putin ordered the general to sit tight until other generals could approach the city and they could all enter at the same time and share the glory. Putin almost certainly believed at that point that Kiev was "in the bag". Until it wasn't.

No one in the Biden administration thought that putting sanctions on Russia would stop the war in the short term. Sanctions were always a long-term solution. The issue with social media posts is that confidence and morale are a big part of winning a war. Not every military is comprised chiefly of Rambo's and John Wayne super-soldiers. No one was saying that social media posts would "mostly win" the war. Biden did at least ten times as much as Trump has done to defeat Russia and help Ukraine win the war. Trump should probably stick to offering to carry Biden's jock strap.

Russia's economic growth has been mostly created by nationalist takeovers of foreign company operations in Russia, and neglect of Russian infrastructure, along with Russian oil sales to India and China, throwing all excess money into weapons and soldier bonuses. Growth has been slowing down. You can only neglect infrastructure so long, and you eventually run out of foreign assets to seize. The sanctions are working, even if a little slow for our liking. Most experts are giving Russia less than a year before their economy implodes.

Your news was from last year. You should try getting your news more than once per year. Most grownups do.

A nice article on Ukraine's Timur special forces unit.

The long-feared special forces unit that ‘wiped out’ a Russian battalion

This unit even broke away from the War in Ukraine to fight Russian Wagner troops in Sudan (that's in Africa, for the MAGA faithful).

I’ve wondered about that. Russia army seems disorganized and would seem be ripe for ops invading behind their lines.
