So...Texas is Down a Few Legislators

True. Both houses are technically members of Congress, but nomenclature says HoR is a Congressman/woman and those in the Senate are Senators.

As for gerrymandering, I would say other "blue" states could potentially gerrymander if they wanted. Take Illinois. They could probably lump enough of the rural areas into one, large district, and replace the population with Chicago area and steal 2 out of the 3 R seats. Washington State could probably do the same with the SeaTac population and steal a seat. But it would be obvious and not representative of the population. Neither is what Texas is trying to do.

 

Assistant AG Harmeet Dhillon is trying to UNDO race-based Congressional districts largely gerrymandered for Dems, and is suing to remove ineligible voters from the voter rolls.

"We are investigating violations of federal voting laws. We're ensuring that all 50 states have and continue to have clean voter rolls. We are challenging efforts to suppress or dilute the vote. We are attacking illegal race-based gerrymandering, and we are protecting ballot access for all Americans."

"We have sued jurisdictions such as North Carolina for not registering voters properly by first verifying their eligibility."

"We have notified Texas of grave concerns about congressional districts drawn with racial motivations, and we are suing other jurisdictions where there is evidence of ineligible voters on their voter rolls."

"Our job is to make it easier to vote and harder to cheat."

 

^ Fun!! Trump is encouraging Texas to gerrymander mid-decade ...... and ostensibly now will be using the power of the federal government to investigate any gerrymandering that he doesn't care for.

Who would have thought such abuse of government would come from electing a criminal?

 

Looks like the criminal Trump is trying to get other red states to do the same now. Its just his standard practice of degrading everything he touches, for personal gain. Kind of like being a thief of integrity.

Good luck getting past the 14th Amendment with just an EO. As stated, the Constitution directs the Census to count all persons. Not just all citizens. Or all legal residents But all persons. And last time I checked, immigrants, regardless of legal status, is still a person? Of course, maybe we can compromise and count undocumented immigrants as 3/5 of a person?

 

How is that better than not showing up?

 

What about Massachusetts? Trump won 36% of the vote in that state and there is not a single Republican elected to the House from that state. They have 7 House seats. Connecticut is the similar. They have 5 House seats and no Republicans.

I really would just prefer if we could agree that one party states gerrymander and not act like it is only one side that does it. The biggest issue is that the Southern states that are now controlled by Republicans have been prevented from doing it until now due to the VRA, where Northern states like CT and MA have not.

Not showing up is a tactical move where showing up only for the rich and connected is cronyist.
