So...Texas is Down a Few Legislators

Honestly this is just Texas political theater. It isn’t new and this won’t be the last time it happens. All of these breaking of traditions is going to bite us in the tush. I said this when the democrats ended the filibuster. The only thing certain in politics is the pendulum swings.

 

If its not new, why is it breaking a tradition?

 

Vermont and Delaware only have 1 seat. The rest of them are solid blue states and none have districts that look anything like this:

Granted I don't know that much about gerrymandering other than it's purpose but what difference does it make to do it mid-decade? Can't any individual state do it whenever they want?

I enjoy that you went to AI to check this but that you didn't realize that you literally can't gerrymander a state with one district. Also, the guy claimed that Maine is heavily gerrymandered because they have 1 Republican...when they have 2 districts. Also, they are actually both represented by Democrats (although the 2nd leans Republican- the Democrats have run a strong candidate there the last couple of cycles, winning the district). Lol. Just A+ stuff.

California can definitely get more blue seats (up to 5 I believe) with greater gerrymandering. If Texas does it then Cali will respond.

 

But, California has an independent redistricting commission, which limits partisan gerrymandering. And there are several other red states that could be gerrymandered .

 

That can be eliminated.

 

Your video literally says that Delaware and Vermont are "gerrymandered to the maximum extent that it can be." Imagine believing, without questions, people that would tell you something like that.

No. You're making a specious argument. Vermont and Delaware have only 1 Congress Member each. It is impossible for the state to be gerrymandered.

 

The point is Blue states except California and New York can not be gerrymandered further while several red states can. Which gives Republicans an big advantage.

 

Perhaps. But only when viewed through a lens taking a positive view of re-gerrymandering mid-decade, despite this never having been done, and it dramatically increasing the vile politicization of our representation.

But of course, this is what Donald J. Trump wants -and what he wants our nation to be like. So it's not only a good thing, it's what all of his followers want too.

"Main" being a subjective term, one could argue that the main point is that you watched an re-posted a video that literally tells lies.

Given that you posted a video telling you that Delaware and Vermont are gerrymandered (and that Maine is gerrymandered because of only one Republican leaning district- in a state with 2 districts) and the fact that you apparently thought that the Texas vote sink district that runs from Austin to San Antonio was somehow something that Democrats wanted, not how you actually do gerrymandering for Republicans, I am going to go ahead and say that you have no clue on this one.

Very few multi-district red states have much in the way of Democratic districts, because they are all (including Florida and Texas) heavily gerrymandered. And if they try, many red states will run into issues related to racial gerrymandering (which is why Louisiana and Alabama both have to have 2 Democratic-leaning districts as their attempts to pack as many black people as possible into one district were ruled illegal by the appeals courts).

 

Not to pick nits like the post above yours but they get 3 congress members each, two of them are Senators, 1 House of Rep.
