Perhaps im misreading your post hete, but... are you saying you'd care less if Russia invaded jersey city, than poor, warm, fuzzy, lovable, irresistibly charming, Ukraine?

I mean, very scary Russia is kinda funny, half a world away (worth mentioning too--EAST OF NATO...)... but it's a whole different deal, if they showed up on the jersey shore...

When Vladimir Putin announced last July that anyone volunteering to join the army would be eligible for a 400,000 rouble recruitment bonus, he set off a race between the country’s regional governors over who could stump up the most to boost troop levels on the frontline.

Every region responded with their own additional inducements — some pledging to double the basic payment and others offering to boost the bonuses to as much as 2 million roubles — that’s the equivalent of just under 20,000 US dollars.

BBC Russian has compared what’s on offer to new recruits across the country and we have calculated that 60% of regions are now paying recruitment bonuses of more than one million roubles (just under 10K USD) to sign up, and 25 per cent are paying two million roubles or more.

There are more recent articles about this topic than this one, but I found it interesting. By Russian standards, these do need seem like large payouts. It begs the question: is this a solid strategy? On the face, it may seem to be an inevitable winner in terms of recruiting. However, there must be large numbers of Russian soldiers, who are milking the cow.

What incentive do they have to wrap up the work quickly? Doing so would send them back home to their much lower paying jobs. We see this phenomena play out in the workforce in America. Why let a good opportunity go to waste? As a matter of fact, that would theoretically serve as an outstanding explanation for Russia’s very slow progress forward, while being unable to deliver the knockout blow.

 

At present rate Russia will take all of Ukraine by February 2028. Apparently it takes a few years to kill millions of people shooting back at you when you’re averse to expending millions of losses yourself …

 

Tragically (for Russia), Putin will run out of money long before Ukraine runs out of real estate. Russia is scheduled to go bankrupt next year. China is the only nation that might be able to bail out Putin, but I wouldn't count on it.

Ukraine has been doing some pilfering recently. This time, Russia's secrets on their newest nuclear submarine are in Ukraine's hands. They have found weak points in the sub's design and are ready to sink it as soon as they can locate it. The sub just launched two weeks ago, and is already considered useless.

Russia considers the towing procedures to be the most valuable data stolen, as all Russian Navy vessels are expected to break down frequently and require towing.

 

A grunt would be the last source I’d consult if I wanted objective intel on a given conflict, geopolitical realties, etc.
