I just listened to an entire podcast for that independent gator media day… If you haven’t heard it, it’s a convergence of a dozen podcast and writers for blogs… It’s their first annual independent gator media day separate from the regular media days. It combined several of the podcast that I like that I think do a good job… And I really appreciate that they did this because those Internet guys ask good questions and ask closer to what a fans question would be and it was interviews with actual players and it felt organic and off the cuff. Those are all my positives… There is a giant but though…
I get that a lot of these guys are young and they want to feel organic… But the cringe level of slang and kind of pretending to know a guy that they don’t really know, and weak attempts at humor makes it to where you can’t take these guys seriously… You can’t do an interview with somebody and refer to them as “my guy “13 times or ask them about their off-season workout schedule and then refer to it as “straight gas “… If they could clean up some of that garbage… There’s nothing worse than a guy in his late 30s early 40s referring to something as straight gas… It’s just cringy and I wish they would be a little less “cool” because I want them to be taken seriously. Newspaper and radio are basically dead, and these guys can fill the void… Let’s not fill the void with garbage… I am glad however that Brandon Olsen was not there… I cannot wait till locked on gets the gators a better locked on podcast guy… Talk about cringe… That guy sounds like he’s 12 years old and most of the episodes are just weird sounding… When I put it on the car, my wife immediately starts making fun of it… She doesn’t know anything about sports, but she knows bad radio when she hears it

As a former member of the "media", it's a fine dance. In most cases, the reporter know the "dumb" questions sound "dumb", but he/she is just trying to get the athlete to say what we all know (or think). They need the physical quote. Trust me. Been there. You know it sounds obvious and even stupid, but you need him to say it.

I like the independent media. I REALLY liked it about 5-10 years ago, but it seems to have jumped the shark a bit. For instance, the old Gator Breakdown was great, but now it just seems like a lot of filler. No offense to the host, but it's his guests are who I really liked to hear from. Like everything, the money changes it.

Yeah it does have too much filler. There is such a thing as too much content. Gator nation does it best- their in season film breakdown is ridiculously good

Jumping the shark comes from Fonzie in Happy Days, so don’t think you can term it “new” in any respect.

Kinda, although it's not really new (Fonzie). More like over the hill to the point of no return. As the metaphor goes, Happy Days was all downhill from that episode forward.
