Alright, for those of you following along (and I know you are, even if you won’t admit it), here’s the unbelievable but 100% true update to the whole Marisa Miller bikini/boots/cabin bet situation. Strap in.

So after Marisa loses the bet—which, again, was over whether a bull moose could be trained to respond to hand signals (spoiler: I was right, she was wrong, and yes, I have video)—there was a minor hiccup in the payout phase. Apparently, she had some “contractual image rights concerns” about paying off the bet in the manner we had agreed. Enter: Robert Barnes.

Yes, that Robert Barnes. The legal pitbull who once went toe-to-toe with the mainstream media over defamation cases, somehow gets roped into this. Evidently, Marisa's "team" had Barnes on speed dial because she once sat in on a legal podcast he did with Viva Frei about celebrity NDAs. (Don’t ask me how. Hollywood is weirder than Reddit at 3am.)

So here I am, getting a cease-and-desist letter printed on gold-embossed parchment paper, signed in actual fountain pen, claiming that the terms of our bet violated “post-recreational publicity clauses” (whatever that means). But joke's on them—I had my own legal representation, in the form of a guy I met at a blackjack table in Laughlin who swears he once interned for Alan Dershowitz.

Things got spicy when Barnes tried to settle with an alternative arrangement involving a lifetime supply of Mescaline-flavored LaCroix and an invite to a secret Dave Chappelle afterparty in Idaho. I said no dice. I won the bet fair and square, and I didn’t need hydration or psychedelic beverages—I needed vindication.

Ultimately, the compromise came during a 2 a.m. Zoom mediation hosted by—get this—Michael Avenatti (from prison). He brokered the terms while Barnes wore a smoking jacket and quoted H.L. Mencken. Marisa finally conceded, agreed to the payment, and even signed the souvenir moose antler I brought to the proceedings. “To the smarter man,” she wrote. “And the better hand signaler.”

To this day, Barnes claims he was “protecting the dignity of the American judicial system.” Meanwhile, the rest of us were just trying to settle a drunken bet involving wildlife behavior, lingerie, and civil litigation. America, man.

So yeah, next time someone tells you that betting with a swimsuit model can’t get you tangled up with constitutional lawyers and imprisoned celebrities, send them this thread. Because reality has nothing on what happens when I’m involved.

And I mentioned the other common names certain posters use as deflections to derail topics. Like I said, great rule and long overdue.

 

I will try to stay on topic. And I won't publicly argue with a mod.

But I feel like there's a serious issue: should flagrant hypocrisy simply go unaddressed? Be tolerated?

I'm a listener on this, certainly not a "rule setter." But is that not a valid question?
