Trump EO For World Price Controls on Drugs

Price controls are a reach... but regulations (fairness in pricing) are a norm.

 

I’m all for lowering health costs for Americans. And it is beyond conceivable that Trump wants to make the costs cheaper through something he misunderstood was MFN. It wouldn’t be the first time he misused a term.

 

he is telling them if they can charge 30$ for a product in Europe then it should be charging $30 for the same meds in the US- he is telling them to stop gouging the American public- not sure why even a liberal would disagree with that

 

I would rather that foreign countries pay their fair share for the new drugs, that we come up with, than the American people have to foot the entire bill for it. Over 80% of these new drugs are American created/invented on American soil.

 

Oh, how many drugs have you come up with to include yourself as "we?"

 

Not true, the drug prices were already negotiated by the drug companies to other nations... All the Favored Nation's EO would do is give the American people the best price that these drug companies ready give to other nations.

IOW, Americans will get the best price deal on all of these American made and invented drugs. Trump IS NOT DICTATING THE PRICES... those prices are set by the pharmaceutical companies.

 

Nope... they set the prices... and we (Americans) will now be getting the best price as set by the pharmaceutical companies themselves.

Time for “conservatives” to put their thinking caps on.

How do we think all these countries negotiated their amazing drug prices? What entity negotiated these amazing prices on their behalf. Trump’s grand idea is to… mandate price matching of socialized medicine.

I suppose conservatives have some “alternative facts” explanation to explain how govt enforces this, how this would apply to any authority the govt has on pricing outside of whatever Medicare and Medicaid can negotiate (even though conservatives have been AGAINST Medicare’s ability to negotiate!). They are against “single payer”, but want govt to enforce a single price. Let’s see just one of our “conservative” posters actually attempt a coherent explanation.

 

We are in total agreement in what would be great for American pocketbooks. I don’t see the legal mechanisms to make what you described a reality.

 

You don't think we cannot force these companies to charge Americans the lowest price... the price that they change people in other countries? Why not?

 

What power does the US have to dictate a company’s ability to negotiate price terms with its consumers in other countries? I’d say this, if you want some finger-pointing for US drug prices, check out pharmacy benefit managers (“PBM”). They are the ones who negotiate domestically for our health insurers.

 

The U.S. will NOT BE MAKING PRICES. The pharmaceutical companies have already done that. Nothing will change.

We The People will simply be getting the best (PRICE) deal that these companies already offer peoples of other countries. We get what these companies already charge. I can't believe this concept is that hard for you to understand.

 

I’m not beefing with you. I think it’s not as easy as an executive order.

 

Okay, I gotcha. That is very true. Trump might find some resistance and legal challenges, although one Dem (forgot which one) already wanted to sign on to the EO and codify it. So, maybe the congress is not the true hurdle here.

 

I’m going to give the Orange Man Bad some credit for pulling out one of the most liberal anti-big business ideas I could imagine from a Republican. Wow. He has brought the front lines the idea of… cough… drug prices. This should unite all Americans, business, insurance companies, etc on the fleecing of the US citizen resident. Bravo. Up is down, right is left.

Not sure I understand this. The NYT story is about the 15 percent tariff on drugs coming from Europe and how it could raise prices. Doesn't mentioned the most favored nation order bringing prices down.
