let's not forget what a great defender Scottie was nor how easily Prather got to the hoop. Haslem anchoring this defense would have been tough to score on. Condo is dominating the offensive glass while Richard seals off Young.
Musta missed this. Thanks for voting. It's 3-1 for team A. There have been over 1000 views of this thread, with only four votes. C'mon friends, I hoped this might be a pleasant distraction during the summer, but the participation is minimal. As the person who dedicates a great amt of time & energy to the Hallgator pick 'em, I would appreciate some folks giving a few seconds to participate here. Summary/update: Team A leads team B 3-1 and the first to four votes wins the opening match. Here are the rosters: .............Team A..............Team B G...........W Clayton Jr........Scottie Wilbekin G...........Teddy Dupay........Lee Humphrey G/F.........D Finney-Smith....Casey Prather F............Brent Wright........Alex Condon C............Patric Young.......Udonis Haslem --------------------------------------------- Bench......Kenyan Weaks....Craig Brown Bench......Andrew DeClercq..Chris Richard. Next game will be Team C vs. Team D.
Thanks, Lurker. We have a game 1 winner, with Team A defeating Team B 4 votes to 1. There are five remaining contests, which will be followed by the championship game, at which pt the judges's scores will be disclosed and factor in to the final result. Here is game two. Please vote for team C or D. Thanks. Team C...........Team D Taurean Green...Dan Cross Alijah Martin.....Michael Frazier Corey Brewer.....Mike Miller Al Horford.........Thomas Haugh Ruben Chinyelu..Joakim Noah --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Will Richard.......Donnell Harvey Will Yeguete......Dametri Hill
I like Team D in this match-up. Cross, Frazier, Miller and Haugh can all shoot very well from deep. Spread the floor and put Noah at the high post where he could pass or attack the rim in half court sets. He did that at UF and did it really well with the Bulls for a few seasons. And Noah is maybe the best rim protector the Gators ever had and he can run the floor WAY better than Chinyelu. He can even handle the ball on the break. But Dametri's game might not translate to this line up. Chins can match him pound for pound down low and I would take Will Yeguete over Harvey every day of the week. I give Team C an edge on the bench. Al Horford and Mike Miller are the two best all around players and I give an edge to Al. They can both do it all. Both great players. Al is just a little bit greater. Martin and Brewer are defensive studs for Team C but Noah is a mistake eraser for Team D that evens out the defense. I think that Team D just has too much fire power from the arc for Team C to overcome.
Put me down for team C. Though you might see Richard move into the starting lineup over Ruben. I like Green over Cross, Martin over Frazier and Horford over Haugh. Noah is definitely better than the centers on team C. Brewer vs Miller is a hard one to pick, but I go with Team C for their stifling defense.
Green and Cross --even Martin and Frazier - edge to Frazier on catch /shoot Brewer and Miller, Brewer slasher and faster , Miller high BB IQ deadly anywhere on court ,edge here Horford and Haugh , both blue collar workers , Horford a little more stout/stronger on off/def ,edge here Chinyelu and Noah , Noah all day, energy /passion, relentless Team C bench cuts deficit slightly but team D bench maintains defensively Team D wins by 10
Simply an observation: DeClercq would not have backed up Brent Wright. It would have been the opposite. DeClercq played 10 seasons in the NBA. He is perpetually underrated. Edited to add: Nothing against Brent Wright. He was excellent for us!
Good observation and I can affirm that our judges panel of @rserina and @tampajack1 agree with you. The person who drafted Brent Wright ahead of Andrew DeClercq might have had a soft spot for Wright. They were both four year players at FL and had similar senior year stats (per 40). Player.......pts.......fg%.......rbd.......stl.......asst.......blk.......tov.......fouls DeClercq....16.4......51.1.......11.0......1.5......1.7.........1.4.......3.5.......4.2 Wright........20.7.....57.9.......10.2......2.1......2.7.........0.8.......3.2.......4.2 Throw in the fact that Wright could hit the three (he averaged about 40 attempts per season, hitting 41.1%) and DeClerq was a non factor there and I think a case can be made for Brent Wright. Both were great Gators though and you're not alone in favoring DeClerq. P.S. If you don't mind, we would like to have your vote in the game of Team C vs. D. Thanks
I don't mind. About Brent Wright...he had a very bizarre thing happen to him his senior year which affected his basketball future. He had a shoe literally blow out while playing, which caused an injury to his foot. I specifically remember that he was playing his best basketball when it happened. It's been a while, so it is a bit hazy, but I remember that he had some continuing problems from that which may have limited his professional options. Hopefully some of you guys will remember this and fill in some details.
I’ll go for team C. Don’t have you guys depth of analysis but gut says 3 04s > 1 04. They know how to play together. Plus I like their bench. Tommy is the X factor for team D.
