There's an obvious tension between the idea that the Dems need to shake things up and guys like Rahm, who are friends with the Clintons and worked for Obama, consummate insiders. Just rerunning the same old 90s playbook, denounce 'the left' Sista Souljah style, dial up the bigotry for the chuds, and pretend there are imaginary Republicans who are willing to be partners in governance and who's votes are in play. Meanwhile in 2025 the median Dem voter wants to put Trump in prison, defund ICE and shut down the supreme court.

But he'll never shake his ties to Obama. And frankly, he just comes off as a bitter and mean person. This is the anti-McCain scenario where the right-wing hacks will love him . . . until they turn on him and blame him for all of Obama's perceived faults when he's running against their boy.

You're right. It's not even original. I'm not saying go hard left as that will be an unmitigated failure, but this guy is a clown who represents all the worst elements of the D party.

That is why I wouldn't expect him at the top of the ticket. But nobody votes on VPs directly.

I'd suspect that the competition for the "Moderate" lane at the top of the ticket in 2028 would be Andy Beshear, Josh Shapiro, Pete Buttigieg, Jon Ossoff (assuming he wins re-election), Ruben Gallego, and maybe somebody like Whitmer, Kelly, or Klobuchar. Possibly with an outside shot to one of the Democratic governor candidates this year (Sherill in NJ and Spanberger in Virginia).

Guys, we're only 7 months into MAGA 2.0. We have no idea what will emerge for 2028.

As the OP has pointed out before in previous threads, I think there are basically two lanes: fighters vs norms respectors (to be polite - I'd call them the surrender caucus). Rahm is a combative dick but I still think he falls into the "norms respectors" crowd that is willing to rule over whatever wreckage Trump leaves behind with a limited agenda and vision. His combat skills will be put to use combating anyone seeking to displace the prevailing democratic leadership and consultant class that seeks to avoid politics and manage whatever status quo prevails. He could make the ticket if someone at the top matches that profile, but anyone who does a "team of rivals" thing with him would be an idiot.

100% same as the old except much more a-hole.

D’s prolly think that’s all it takes to counter MAGA!

We have the benefit of hindsight, but imagine you knew the candidates but not the outcomes, and here is D’s murders row for DECADES:

    Kamala
    Dead Biden
    STFU Biden
    Hillary
    Obama
    Kerry
    Gore
    Slick
    Dukakis
    Mondale

That gets you all the way back to Carter.

Without the hindsight, Obama should be seen as a stone cold losing proposition too. He is the only thing preventing just utter catastrophe. Totally accidental that the black guy with the Muslim name pulled it off, he really shouldn’t have. And he did twice.

Otherwise you have a win against the worst candidate/person of all time, who they immediately re-lost to, and Slickster, who was probably the last viable/sensible choice.

It is almost a clean sweep of can’t-win establishment candidates, cycle after cycle.

Obama beat McCain and Romney. Both live wires the whole time. Clinton beat incumbent Bush and Dole. Dole was pretty duddy but not DOA. R’s found a way to field someone who COULD win while D’s put that disaster lineup together.

So while I agree with your Rahm take, this seems like an almost ideal D candidate. He can’t win. LFG!!

Uh no, he was a rich guy that lived in NY and donated money to people he thought would win. There's no chance he voted for Carter, Mondale or Dukakis lol.

Rahm did not offer to serve in the IDF once, let alone twice so I'm not sure how it affects his election chances.

I could easily provide a link that proves you wrong, but then you'd run to your mod buddy and demand that I be banned for taking this thread off topic.

If a moderator says I can post a link that supports my claim I will.

Claiming that Rahm tried to serve in the IDF is not taking this thread off topic, go for it as long as it is not from some bat guano website that that does not link to any reputability site. And remember, it is proving that Rahm tried to serve IN the IDF, not along side them.

Why ban him? We know everything he posts is - at best - suspect. And - at worst - complete horse. . . .

Frankly, if you go watch these dorks, you'll be able to predict every word out of his mouth/fingers. Straight-from-the-horse's-mouth Russian propaganda. Always the pro-Russian angle. No variation whatsoever. I could smell it the minute he randomly showed up in October.

Well “someone” did vote for a person who said grab them by their kitty. So there’s that.

And now IDF snipers target the genitals of Palestinian civilians waiting in line for food. I can provide links but moderators will ban me for taking the thread off topic.

If a mod wants me to provide links I will.

Bottom line I don't see Rahm Emanuel becoming president. Too corrupt. Too Deep State. Ruthless reputation. Obama's reputation declining and Rahm was his chief of staff. He backed the rapid naturalization of immigrants (without proper background checks) to turn them into Democrat voters. Emanuel loved creating sanctuary cities.

Rahm's associations with Israel are net negative imo

Am I allowed to voice my honest opinion at Too Hot? I don't think so. Permanent banning incoming.

So now you think Rahm volunteered to serve alongside the IDF? Whatever.

If a mod says I can provide a link I will.
