This is great news. We can demolish some of those vulnerable buildings on the mall in DC and replace them with condos. Plus, it’s always an adventure getting food poisoning every now and then. One more win over the lefties, right Bill?

Going from “drain the swamp” to making lots of little swaps around the country. Lobbyists are going to enjoy their private jets landing in remote airfields.

There may be some benefit in de-centralizing, but I'm not seeing it. Seems like it will cost more, and displace lots of employees who like their current location. As usual, one has to ask, "why?"

Keep in mind this is much of the USDA workforce in the DC area. That’s just a small percentage of the USDA overall employees. Make sense to put them closer to the field. And it will save money since the locations they would be moved to have lower locality pay.

of course. Remember it well. Point is we can’t assume our food will always be safe or that “the market” will take care of companies that have unsafe practices.

Doubt that they will demolish the building. They will probably refurnish it for other offices of the Ag Department.

Do you have a problem with new condo buildings in DC? The redevelopment of the Navy Yard has been a very big success in DC.

I meant venerable, not vulnerable, but both probably apply. I absolutely have a problem with replacing the historical buildings with condos. Part of the enjoyment of walking on the Mall is to look at magnificent buildings that you might see in Athens or Rome. I also spent 4 and 1/2 years working in the IRS Building at 1111 Constitution Avenue.

I wonder when the emperor will move to change the restriction on buildings in DC being no taller than the Washington Monument? Perhaps he can erect a Trump tower or some other monument to himself that will be the biggest thing ever built in DC.

I do not think any federal building on The Mall will ever be turned into condos. My point was more about the redevelopment of certain areas of DC that have benefited from redevelopment.

I am all for that. When I worked there, I lived in Northern Virginia, but there were a lot of neighborhoods under development in Washington DC, which are now very nice neighborhoods.

I’ve been driving from Alexandria to JB Bolling over the week. The difference around the Navy Yard is amazing. It was very well done and has transformed the area.

Interesting. My preference if I could have afforded it (which I couldn’t back then) would have been to live in Old Town Alexandria.
