Could Rahm Emanuel Be Our Next President? We could do far worse - extensive resume - moderate - not afraid to stand up against far left cultural issues - clearly good at politics - not a shrinking violet
I’ve honestly been amazed at some of the layup issues the elected officials on the left seemingly can’t avoid. It’s wide open for a rational candidate. He comes out and says ‘no a man can’t be a woman’ and he’s immediately pushed to top by more centrist democrats. While I agree that would help him in a general, can he get out of the primary with takes like that ? My opinion is not likely. Rahm Emanuel tells Megyn Kelly a man can’t become a woman
Pass, but having him in the field will help differentiate a Dem with actual ideas and charismatic leadership qualities. He’s still better than Vance. Let’s not forget that MAGA has to pull out their own field. Vance might not win the GOP nomination.
What did he do as 2X mayor of Chicago to demonstrate his chops to be POTUS? Likely answer: he kept the Dem machine running.
Father a country. Free the slaves. Win two World Wars. Survive a depression. Stare down a missile crisis. End a cold war. Understand what 98% of humans already know...that men and women have different junk. One of these doesn't really seem presidential.
He did a great job covering up police shootings, making an enemy of the teachers unions and siphoning off city revenue from parking meters to a private operation ... that probably qualifies him in some people's estimation
Rahm's dad was born in Israel and was a member of the Zionist terror organization the Irgun. Rahm volunteered twice for service with the IDF which has a declining reputation. Posters can judge for themselves how Emanuel's connection to Israel will play with voters. Emanuel is good on many "kitchen table" issues. He doesn't want men in women's sports. He doesn't think a man can become a woman. Emanuel. is ruthless. He sent a large rotting fish to a pollster that pissed him off. Vaguely recall reading at some political dinner he grabbed a steak knife, called out a person's name and stabbed the table and yelled, "Dead!".Named another person and again stabbed the table: 'Dead!" He'd a guy that gets things done. Rahm has been called a "master of political corruption" by Robert Barnes. Was Stormy Daniels lawyer Michael Avenatti trained by Rahm Emanuel? Yes, according to what I've heard. DYOR. A lot of politics is about raising money. Emanuel is well-known for his ability to schmooze big money Jewish donors. Rahm was one of the first (if not the first) to instruct Democrats to speed up the naturalization process and get immigrants registered as Democrat voters. Thanks to Rahm immigrants with criminal records more easily became American citizens. Rahm was an early proponent of sanctuary cities. Serving as Obama's chief of staff might be seen as a negative by many voters. Emanuel should not be underestimated, given his organizational skills, his ability to raise money and his high IQ. Highly corrupt guy imo
Rahm is not a centrist. Saying a man cannot become a women just means he is sane, it does not make him a centrist. Most of his political positions would be considered middle to left of the middle of the Democratic Party. Rahm is extremely smart and can see a political opportunity when one presents itself. By starting to move to the center on a lot of cultural issues that are 80-20 issues, Rahm is staking out a possible running lane in '28. Shapiro is also starting to show he is willing to do something similar. He called out Mandami's on his refusal to condemn Hamas.
1. The IDF only has a declining reputation with people that fall for Hamas propaganda. Their reputation has skyrocketed within the professional military community around the world for what they have been able to accomplish over the last two and half years. 2. Provide a link that shows Rahm volunteered twice to serve in the IDF.
100%. Go back and look at my posting history on this topic. I was Lambasted for stating over and over on this board that the Israeli tactics will be studied as new gold standard for conducting urban operations. Those in the know, are well aware of this. My bad on thread creep. Back on topic
The bigger question would be why was that post necessary or even productive conversation to the OP thread.
Not sure why the mods keep allowing that poster's antisemitic posts to stand but they need to be corrected.
Do I have Rahm confused with someone. Wasn’t he married to Alina Habba and was doing some bizarre telesex stuff with young woman maybe girls. I want my next president not to have the ick factor.
I think you’re confusing many people. For example, Habba is Trump’s attorney. I think you’re thinking of the former Hilary Clinton aide who’s former husband, not Emmanuel, was a sex whacko.
I think you might be confusing him with a few people. Anthony Weiner definitely seems to be in there. He was married to Huma Abedin, who is a big time Democratic advisor, especially around Hillary Clinton when she was a big deal. And I think you might be thinking of Newsome and his ex-wife, the ex-fiance of Don Jr., Kimberly Guilfoyle.
He was definitely not popular by the end of his time in Chicago. I wouldn't be shocked to see him as VP, if for no other reason than he gets the stuff done that nobody else will do, even if it makes him really unpopular and disliked. Essentially, a Democratic Dick Cheney. Politicians becoming President often like the notion of unloading the unpopular stuff on their VP.
Isn't this a thread about Rahm's electibility? That means looking at his overall record. Rahm's connections to Israel might have helped him at one time but the opposite is true today imo. What will hurt Emanuel the most is his reputation for being bad on immigration/sanctuary cities and the perception that he is corrupt. His close ties to Obama won't help.
I like the plain way he speaks, and his observations from being in Japan were interesting to me, for example. He's tough enough, but he seems more hot-headed than I would prefer in a CIC. I watched a couple interviews with him recently, and despite his reputation for bad language, he refused to swear publicly - at least at the president, citing a respect for the office. His entire personality is just a little quirky, and I'm not sure how he'd be received nationally.
I think he's pretty toxic, a guy that everyone can find a reason to hate. Not even being somewhat associated with Obama could overcome that, and being from Illinois, he adds nothing to the ticket from an EV perspective. Not to mention he is not at all helpful when it comes to Israel/Palestine, especially now that the Dem voting base has a negative view of Israel and Zionism. I dont know what it says about the state of "centrism" that the main players are dudes like Cuomo and Rahm who have been around forever and arent especially well-liked. Surely it cant be hard to find a younger person with less baggage that has one ounce of charisma and appeal to a broad set of voters.
