I agree with this take, and especially that Florida's wr's will make or break DJ's performance. I'll never forget how OK put a whoopin' on the Gators in the Orange Bowl because four wr's elected not to play (nobody say one wr was sick-he just didn't want to play). Trask looked horrible because he didn't have receivers who could run routes. Four things ESPN says will make or break Florida’s 2025 campaign
Must have quality "plug-n-play" depth on the D-line. Must stay healthy on the O-line. We have to turn the corner on self-inflicted mistakes both on the field and on the coaching side. No more ST letdowns. We have to put as many of our great players on the field at the same time... flood the field with talent.
#1 Lagway has to excel #2 Have to stay healthy on the DL and secondary due to limited depth #3 WR potential has to turn into production #4 OL has to stay healthy and dominate in the run game
1- DJ Lagway has made the offense hum every time he started 2. True, but no one has depth like they used to. 3. Billy Go has a track record that provides confidence. 4. This is projected to be the best oline we have had in a decade; the RB position is STRONG, and the passing game will back the defense off the line some this year.
If we call and execute the right plays at the right time from start to finish.......I'll settle for 91.6% of the time
I think it's more on DJ and we do need a cohesive receiver unit but he can do what he can do either way.
There are literally so many more ifs than 4. Those 4 ifs are just the foundation and I don’t mean just for the Gators. Every team comes with a lot more “ifs”. The “ifs” start to form as every team plays each week and change therein.
In the words of the great Jackie Charleton: ‘It may not be easy for us, but it is not going to be easy for them, either.”
If Lagway is what we think he is ... then look out! If he has receivers. He has receivers, can they get open, catch the ball, and get extra yardage? If last season's sophomore defenders become steely-eyed veterans. I think this defense will play well enough to win most games. The onus is on the offense to score more points than their opponents. If the Gators have the depth to survive this ridiculous schedule. I don't have questions about depth, but I have questions about making dumb, mental, mistakes that keep opponents in ball games. This is the most talented team BN has put on the field. Consequently, they should be firing on all cylinders!!!
I’m concerned about Napier’s play calling. Love the guy, love his energy and toughness. Great recruiter. But, so often plays are on ‘nightmare’ mode level of difficulty and they end up not working so well. I hope this season he coaches the offense to its strengths instead of trying to outsmart defenses. Team has all the talent it needs, so I’m crossing my fingers. I think that is the #5 that should have been on this list.
Hypothetical of course, but a more reasonable schedule has talk of the playoffs not feeling like a dream. Thinking they put it all together and have a season that surprises the " experts". Go Gators!
