Here's hoping the Gators mix some five wide receiver sets. Can you imagine the speed we could simultaneously have on the field? Florida’s speed demon just showed he’s a power freak too
A tantalizing prospect to say the least. Good post, many thanks. On a side note, Dallas Wilson has reportedly added ten high-quality pounds and now weighs in at 219. This guy could be a beast as a true FR. Stay tuned.
With our deph at DT and CB...Need to average 35 points a game and score early and often. SOS use to strike early and open up the run for later.
According to those who are supposedly in the know, we do. I guess we'll find out one way or another when and if BN opens things up a bit.
Pretty sure we’ve got the O line for it this year. All that speed + Lagway is a winner - bring on 5 wide!
DJ was close to the top of college football in plays downfield. I doubt that part will be an issue. We had a decent running game too. DJ has to become a complete qb to bring our offense to the next level. Everything else is pretty much there for him. Ive always thought his junior year would be the time.
Those interceptions were almost exclusively on medium depth throws. At least one went off the hands of his receiver. Opposing defenses knew that DJ's weak spot last season was throwing over the middle, especially against zone defenses. So he saw a lot of that. Hopefully the coaching staff has been working with him all offseason to improve his reads and decision making in that part of the field, again especially against zone defenses. Even though he hasn't had the opportunity to throw as often due to his injuries, much of that coaching can be taught in the film room. We shall see. As for the 5 wide formation, I hope we run it but I also hope Napier doesn't show it against LIU and USF, saving it for LSU and Miami (and beyond).
This is the most important thread of the preseason. Refer back to this after LSU and Miami. Florida is one of 3-4 teams in SEC that can play multiple sets and shorten the game BUT can they beat drop 8/zone? That was DJs Achilles The only way to do it is 4-5 wide sets. So 2 very serious things to look for. 1. will CBN, O’Hara, Callaway recognize what anyone that knows football recognizes and in turn open up rushing lanes that will make this a freak show of an offense 2. Will we use the Ferraris we’ve recruited or keep them in the garage ?
I wonder how many saw this quote at the end of this article I posted initially. "One of the reasons why Gator fans clamor for four and five-wide receiver looks compared to the two-tight-end sets that Billy Napier prefers to use is because of players like Hawkins."
