CNBC did some comparison shopping at Walmart, the US' largest retailer. And prices are rising on several products. Mostly from products made in countries hit hardest by Trump's tariffs. As tariffs begin to take hold for other countries, expect more price increases. And no, don't expect the retailers to eat the extra costs. As the Walmart CFO stated when CNBC asked:

“We’re wired for everyday low prices, but the magnitude of these increases is more than any retailer can absorb.”
CNBC also did some comparison shopping and saw increases in other large retailers as well, including Costco, Best Buy, Nike, and Elf Beauty.

Nike? If the price goes up a little on Nike junk who the hell cares. If you can't pay for them it is not going to change your life. Buy something that was not way overpriced already. Save some kid in China from having to work in slave labor.

You could say that about a lot of things. Maybe eat less eggs 3 years ago too, you wont die. But a lot of people voted for Trump to retcon the 2019 economy, not pay more for things that already weren't cheap because of some BS understanding of trade deficits.

Wait, you want people to buy cheaper items because they will pay their workers more or keep them in better conditions? I'm not sure that is how it works...

Trump, campaigning in August, 2024, said this:

“Starting the day I take the oath of office, I will rapidly drive prices down and we will make America affordable again. We’re going to make it affordable again.”
How's Trump doing driving prices down? It's not just Nike, but many big retailers including Walmart who are increasing prices due to the Trump tariffs.

There are also hidden costs with these tariffs. Nike is a supplier for the University of Florida. How much will equipment costs do up at Nike schools? And will ticket prices go up too because of this?
