The economy is not great here in FL. Houses are unaffordable for most working class people and sales are way down. Older people on fixed incomes are being forced to leave the state due to insurance and condo fees etc growing out of control at a crazy pace. Many of these people even assumed things would rise up to like 8% a year but have seen their insurance and/or fees double on them in the past few years. The younger working people I know have less disposable income due to this and the crazy electricity and food inflation of the past few years. Inflation on essentials has went up way more than those comical inflation figures the govt puts out.

Standard of living is verging on third world in much of the U.S. But Florida is arguably least bad.

Newsom has been throwing out stats about red states. Today from Politifact:

PolitiFact found three reports that showed Florida last or second-to-last nationally on mental health care — one from 2025 and two based on data that is at least a decade old. Other rankings put it in a slightly better light.

Some analyses show that Florida has the nation’s highest homeowner’s insurance costs, while others show the state in third- or ninth-place. Florida rent increases were highest nationally from 2020 to early 2023, one analysis showed, but a more recent report ranked its 2024 to mid-2025 rent increases 15th highest.

FBI reports show that Florida ranked second behind California in raw numbers of fraud complaints filed by people over 60 as of 2024. Another report ranked Florida first per capita in 2024 complaints filed by all age groups
