By: Eric Fawcett -- July 14, 2025 The Florida Gators basketball team has added to their roster with the addition of Alex Kovatchev who comes to the Gators after two years at Sacramento State. Kovatchev is someone who is very familiar to Alex Condon, hailing from the same city in Australia (Perth) and playing alongside him at The Basketball Center For Excellence. Sacramento State is one of the schools that is known for having Australian players and he was one of several on the roster, and he now comes to the Gators to add some depth on the wing. Looking at him, he looks pretty strong and has the frame to get considerably stronger, so that's a plus. Sounds like he earned the starting job for his defense. Only played 4 games this past season and lost the rest to an ankle. I trust CTG's player selection and development, and Kovatchev will be a project. Shooting definitely needs work, but hey, his numbers are pretty much what Haugh put up as a freshman. We need wing players for the following season and he may be a good one by then. We would need to suffer a rash of injuries this season for him to earn any real playing time. Haugh, A.J. Brown, Isaiah Brown, Ingram, and possibly Lloyd would be ahead of him. I'm sure he's aware of that and still wants to be a Gator, so it's all good.
