The incident, as I understand it, played out like this:
    Patrolman taps on driver's window.
Pettiford, rolling down window: "'Sup, hossifer, wha'd I do..."
Patrolman: "License, registration, and insurance, please."
Pettiford: "ss'okay, here ya go, hossifer...(belches)"
Patrolman: "Have you had anything to drink tonight, sir?"
Pettiford: "Drink? No... I wash jush goin' to the gym. Coash Pearl will tell you iss cool."
Patrolman: "Can you spell your first name for me, sir?"
Pettiford: "Shur, shur... iss, um, gimme a second, iss T.A.A.H.A.A.A.A.D. Yesh, thass it."
Patrolman: "Step out of the car, sir."

    Rules change.
When I lived in Lee County I was coming home on my bike after partying and was stopped by the local law. I hoped he wouldn't ask me to get off the bike because I was pretty sure I would fall down (this was a long time ago, after army, before UF). He asked me where I lived and worked and i told him (a local club, bartender). He then said “you been out jukin boy? and I said “yes oshifer” or words to that effect. Then…..he said “you go on home now, I’m gonna follow you and I don’t wanna see your ass out here again tonight”. Never thanked him publicly before so Thank You Sir. And thank the fates I survived that part of my life!

The unfortunate potential for this comment to impugn Corey's reputation is slight but not nonexistent.

AFAIK, no member of the 04s, including Corey, had any allegation of a DUI. I think the moniker you rightly noted was due to the seeming out-of-control appearance of Corey's ball-handling on the court, and had no reflection on his off-court behavior.

Joakim did have a run in with the local police for open container and possession of a tiny quantity after his playing days were over and he was back for a visit.

Nope. Celebs should not be exempt from laws.

Nor should they be targeted. Same laws, same treatment for everyone.

Yes, I was pulled over by a cop that parked outside Nickels Alley. Of course, I had been drinking but I was not terribly drunk but surely over the limit. I think I failed the sobriety test but for some reason, he said my friend (who was driving with me) had to drive us home. I was so relieved but thought he had more to drink than me. I always wondered if he thought the thing might have been entrapment as he practically could have followed anyone out of there and pulled them over. I’m glad I didn’t tell him, “Occifer, the beers are only a nickel and I only had a dollar’s worth!”
I wonder how I never got popped when I was drinking.
