Anybody here been to Alaska recently?
Any tips must see places on the coast?
How to avoid libbie traps along the way?
Just general questions everyone would be asking themselves as they venture out…
Any how, hoping to see some cool stuff but hopefully not too close.

My son and his wife spent a week kayaking around Glacier Bay. That was a great time, he said.

Are you going on a cruise or by land?

This. We did a cruise two years ago and it was amazing. But the places you would see on a road trip would be totally different.

The Alaska cruises that I have been on are the most scenic of any cruise I have been on throughout the world.

Just returned from a 14 day trip. 7 land and 7 cruise. Set up by Princess.

There are numerous excursions to choose from at every stop.

My wife and I really enjoyed it as we celebrated our 53rd anniversary.

In 2015 we flew into Anchorage & drove to Denali NP. From there, we drove to Valdez spending a night in Wassila on the way. Spent a few days in Valdez - went fishing. Valdez is scrappy - we really liked it. From there we took a really cool 5-6 hr fairy ride to (S)Whittier & drove to Seward. The all day boat tour outta Seward was probably the highlight of the trip. We then drove to Homer for a night or two then back to Anchorage. Fun trip. Would like to go back & do the inland passage.

We did a cruise a few years back and it was spectacular. However, I wish we spent more time inland after the cruise. Have a blast!!

    Celebrity.
We have a few things lined up…
Salmon stream fishing, horseback riding near bald eagle country, dog sledding and hopefully lots of bar hopping.
    What did I miss?

Whale watching - if you are going in the summer then lots of orcas too. Bear watching - lots of bears in Icy srait point, Juneau around late July/early August.

Bluke finds it funny, but the Davidson glacier near Skagway has receded over a few hundred feet in the last thirty years and access to it may be gone soon.

the Glacier we hiked to outside of Seward had signs with dates along the way showing where the glacier used to be. It had receded a massive amount in a short while & that hike was hot

King Salmon fishing? Dangerous move, you may decide not to come back.

Bear spray. Grizzlies are bigger on the coast (more food). They don't kill you before eating you, they just pin you down and go to work.

As heard on a Joe Rogan podcast

The bears were very visible when I was there, including when I was in a small river fishing in my waders and noticed my small group slowly backing up and leaving me for dead (thanks, guys). There were so many salmon out there (it was summer) that the bears were chubby and happy, but it still got the adrenaline pumping. I would definitely not want to do a Timothy Treadwell and be out there when the bears get hungry.

People warned us about mosquitos. Maybe we weren't phased because we are Floridians, but I didn't really have an issue with them.

I’m definitely thinking about our trip into the bear territory….supposedly on private property with a guide.
Guide will provide spray and will be armed.
Hope we see a bear and I hope we don’t.

Whale watching was fun. We did an ATV tour in the backcountry up a mountain that was fantastic. Meanwhile, Celebrity has fantastic ships. Great food and service, and even with its size it never really feels crowded.
