Pretty decent story on the forecast and warnings, though I don’t see the finger-pointing in the headline https://www.cnn.com/2025/07/05/climate/texas-flooding-forecast-response
Although CNN didn't highlight it, it does seem the Kerr County officials are blaming the NSW. The NWS does appear to be understaffed in that area due to DOGE cuts, but I think they were given ample warning and should have had a better plan than moving kids from one high risk flood area to another high risk flood area. And not getting the younger kids along the edge of the river first? How dumb is that? But if the DOGE cut stuff is true, at least there is some poetic justice in that a red county of 76% Trump voters were the first to pay the price. "Listen, everybody got the forecast from the National Weather Service," Kidd reiterated. "You all got it; you're all in media. You got that forecast. It did not predict the amount of rain that we saw." Kerrville City Manager Dalton Rice also said during the press conference that the storm "dumped more rain than what was forecasted" into two forks of the Guadalupe River. Kerr County judge Rob Kelly told CBS News: "We had no reason to believe that this was gonna be anything like what's happened here. None whatsoever."
Marjorie and some like-minded MAGA officials/influencers are bringing the crazy, insisting the recent extreme weather events--Guadalupe River, NC--are the result of weather manipulation. "It's just not natural," said one.
It didn’t predict the amount of rain because the storm wasn’t predicted to stall like it did. It flash flood warnings went out. What needs to be looked at is whether or not it they were received by everyone and what needs to be done to fix that problem
Screw that. Governor of California didn’t request federalized National Guard but Trump “knew better.”
Need to let this play out to get the real facts, but I saw some reporting that the NWS was not missing forecasting staff instead those that help spread the information. Supposedly they took early retirements with the DOGE cuts like you. But as I said, time will tell and no matter the answers it doesn’t bring those poor girls back.
Ironically, she's not wrong. Humans caused the global warming that has led to more extreme and more unpredictable weather events. It's just that she thinks instead of greenhouse gasses, it's caused by space lasers or something.
As conspiracy theories go, it's not the craziest one I've ever heard. She even uses sciency words like "geoengineering," and "weather modification." I wouldn't be surprised if climate change deniers embrace it as an alternative to the actual science. "I am introducing a bill that prohibits the injection, release, or dispersion of chemicals or substances into the atmosphere for the express purpose of altering weather, temperature, climate, or sunlight intensity. It will be a felony offense. I have been researching weather modification and working with the legislative counsel for months writing this bill. It will be similar to Florida’s Senate Bill 56. We must end the dangerous and deadly practice of weather modification and geo-engineering."
I'm kinda in shock at how insane this thread has gotten. Politics has nothing to do with a tragic weather event. Christianity has nothing to do with a weather event. This tragedy is beyond heartbreaking. We now have the ability to witness these powerful weather events that have been occurring for thousands and thousands of years. This is probably the most intense weather event I have ever seen, and it could not have been predicted in any way. Truly, that water was moving at a speed that is hard to believe. The river rose almost 30 feet in an hour or two. Jesus himself explicitly states in John 16:33, "In this world you will have trouble." This is a realistic assessment of life, acknowledging that hardship is an inherent part of the human experience. This assessment is one of the reasons Christians choose to follow Jesus. We know that there is a forever future of joy waiting for us. We know that we can have a relationship with the Creator of the universe. We know that some will not choose the path of following Jesus. My question to these people is, what if you are wrong?
I would imagine, their "what if you are wrong" is the same as it is for you. You assume that you are right. But if you aren't and God/Gods turn out to be better described by some other religion than the majority religion in this country or by no Human-based religions at all, God will either strike you down for following the wrong path out of vindictiveness or will not do so out of compassion. Heck, the "what if you are wrong?" logic would seem to encourage the rational behavior being to find the most vindictive version of God that you could find and worship him/her, hoping to either gain that God's approval or that the true God will show you mercy in the end.
Of course idiots would blame them as a group, and the idiots would be wrong. You think I think its ok for people to toss a blanket on one group falsely and not another? It's all wrong man, and you are part of it
Which you followed with these statements: Your shots at faith have not just been saved for the people that built some cabins. Why no calling out the county, state governing bodies that allowed it? If they allowed it, then my guess is the camp thought it was ok. This was a tragic failure by all the adults in the process that failed these kids. Christians, government, zoning etc. All share blame.
Are you really "in shock" at politics allegedly being involved in a tragic weather event? I missed your shock and outrage when this was happening; There was one prominent person seizing on the misinformation for his own purposes: Donald Trump. As a candidate, Trump leveled the baseless accusation that the Biden administration was diverting FEMA assistance from North Carolina to house illegal immigrants. He claimed $1 billion of FEMA spending was “stolen” for migrants. He said all FEMA had to offer people in North Carolina was $750, which was not true. Now you'll understand if the current "shock" of people like yourself is viewed somewhat suspiciously .... as if you really only care about politics allegedly being injected into a tragedy when it's done by anyone you don't support? Some might call that great hypocrisy. They might even point out how many people, such as yourself, even went so far as to cast a presidential vote for the person who dragged us down to this level with his repeated outright lies. So what's the matter - don't like the vile Trumpy world you contributed to with your vote? https://www.politico.com/news/2025/05/22/trump-fema-north-carolina-hurricane-helene-00352614
Jesus never showed up at a crisis and said "Hold up everyone, what did this guy do before I got here?"
And for what actually matters light years more than this silly back and forth, lots of rumors two of the girls were found alive, which would be a miracle, but no official confirmation yet.
