    Right here
I think this is wrong. A president is not intended to get shit done. They are simply intended to execute laws. Getting shit done is the job of the legislature, as Madison noted in federalist 51, “In a republican government, the legislative authority necessarily predominates.” What has curiously transpired over the last few decades has been the legislature ceding its power over the executive, but this isn’t the natural state (See Yuval Levin for a good discussion of this).

I do think you’re right to appeal to FDR, who shared Trump’s view of strong central power. FDR also resented the courts checking his actions and once moved to pack the Supreme Court. The senate judiciary committee rebuffed this effort with one of the greatest statements of Republican governance:

That is the American system. It is immeasurably more important, immeasurably more sacred to the people of America, indeed, to the people of all the world, than the immediate adoption of any legislation however beneficial.

Speaking of FDR, can I get odds online for Trump breaking FDR’s length of service record as POTUS? A third term is essentially a given at this point, a slam dunk, but I can see him still going strong in 2032. Both Vance and DeSantis will still be relatively young. There is no hurry to hand things off to one of them.

He'll need a much larger insurrection this time around, because the democrats will be ready for it this time. I think a first term (in prison) is more likely than a third term (in the Oval Office). He better be nice to the democrats, because one of them will decide whether he gets a pardon or winds up rotting in prison till the bitter end.

I'm not any of those things, either, also not an adulterer, draft dodger, or monster that celebrates the death of children from starvation.

    He certainly doesn't represent me.

I agree, but what you just describes is how our republic works. The people vote. But it isnt about "power". He needs to just get stuff done and shut up.

You forgot Don, Jr.. I have little doubt that Donald Trump would prefer that his progeny succeed him furthering his goal of establishing the Trump dynasty.

Dimwit Donald is getting things done. In this case, he's bringing us a likely pandemic through his idiot Sec'y of Health RFK's refusal to do anything about bird flu that is going through America's chickens. Sadly, RFK is demonstrating that he, like most of Trump's closest advisors, is completely unqualified to do his job. Apparently Trump and RFK, Jr. are too ignorant to know that this is exactly what China did 20-25 years ago when bird flu kept getting into the human population. Maybe Trump's legacy of idiocy might be to have him be the "Pandemic President", as in "how to screw one up" or "how to cause one".

RFK's proposal to let bird flu spread through poultry could set us up for a pandemic, experts warn

Lol, talk about dimwits. We saw how the fake vaccine worked, so yea let's trust the same idiots that lied to us go out and now they want to discredit RFK. I'm not saying he's right on this, but it does make a little sense. Just look at how well it worked with covid, natural immunity was 100% safer and more effective than the jab, natural immunity is always better. I wonder how many people would be alive today if that hadn't taken the jab.

You know you used to be a lot more reasonable but your hatred for Trump has made you ignorant, you libbies have so much hate it's sad.

And yes, I know you falsely identify as a republican.

I disagree; we elected a President to keep their promises and that's exactly what our President is doing and he's getting the shit done.

And thank God we have the supreme court Justices that are mostly conservative for the past decades, or this country would be really screwed up

Another lie, no insurrection just some protestors with the FBI and some wacko libs encouraging some violence. He won't need a pardon; the left has pretty much screwed themselves, the future of America is looking great

It will simply be dismissed, but a great post striking to the heart of the matter nonetheless.

Third term sure, but I can’t see him being able to complete a full sentence by 2032. Though you might be right that that doesn’t matter.

It's only a matter of time before our Moron-in-Chief wants his face on Mount Rushmore.

Doh! Too late! What an egotistical dimwit. Hilarious!

Trump really needs his own mountain statue. One where we put our worst presidents. He would look good next to Hoover and Carter.

It's only a matter of time before Trump starts negotiating with Italy to add himself to da Vinci's "Last Supper".
