Out of curiosity, I looked up Ean Johnson Kelly, high motor 3* 5'11 270 signed with Mercer last year. NR of 1475, 218 position rank. Watch him be a great player for Mercer but any SEC fans would scream if their team had signed him. I'm going to track his career now just for fun.
Yeah I believe Johnson Kelly could have competed at a higher level, but the measurables just werent in his favor. Played basketball on the varsity, competed in the field events during track season, actually lifted better than Guervil at states last year as well. Manatee has another kid this year at the MLB position want to say 6'0" or 6'1" 210lbs Ronin Dangler ( currently has offers from Toledo and Eastern Kentucky)....lifts way better than Johnson Kelly and Guervil and is a throw back to the more traditional MLB.....hard nosed and always around the ball. My conerns about him however is his ability to mix it up with at the college level. There were times I wish he'd just learn more form tackling, instead of always trying to destroy the guy with the ball. There were times after making one of his destroy the ball carrier tackles, you could tell he was seeing stars as well afterwards.
Was just sarcasm, but the coaches aren't recruiting what they see on Friday nights. They are projecting abilities for D1. If they got paid based on Friday nights, Lyons would have been a 5 star. He was far more disruptive and consistent than Guervil, but needed a body transformation. Guervil has a prototype body for being a wrecking ball. I am excited to get him(if we can hold onto him).
I once stood next to Tim Newton. I know what the roster said but no way was he 6'1." Wasn't even six feet tall and he weighed 310 when he left UF.
