After the predictable doom-and-gloom thread yesterday, citing the ADP Report, there was (unsurprisingly) no story about the Non-Farm Payroll Report which was released this morning. Again. The ADP Report is minor. The Non-Farm Payroll Report is major and closely watched.

Good news for the American economy under President Trump's leadership!

The story also tells us: Remarkably, and in a dramatic change from the Biden tradition, previous months were revised higher: April was revised up by 11,000, from +147,000 to +158,000, and the change for May was revised up by 5,000, from +139,000 to +144,000.

The stock market went straight up. Again. Are those new highs? LOL! :)

    Hmmm

Average jobs gained per month under Biden: 353K
Average jobs gained in 2024: 186K
    Jobs gained this month: 147K

    Your response: Blowout!

I somehow doubt that you responded in the same manner to the average month under Biden. So what changed to change the nature of your reaction?

It should be noted that your source lied to you. The native-born vs. foreign-born figures are done over years, not by months. It is table 7 in the report.

Yikes. Three quarters of the new jobs are in either state and local government (73K) or healthcare (39K). Not good.

Well, when the US government spent like a drunken sailor on Saturday night shore leave with so much sloshing money, see inflation peaked at 9.1%, that anybody could hire and this on top of rehires coming out of Covid, employment was bound to be up.

I've noticed you have a real issue with perspective.

Keeping in mind that roughly half of those jobs (73,000) were government rather than private sector jobs.

Hmmm, government spending decreased in 2022, 2023, and in 2024. In fact, this year is the first year of an increase in federal government spending since the pandemic.

"The native-born vs. foreign-born figures in the post are presented as monthly data for June 2025, not aggregated over years. This aligns with standard BLS reporting practices for monthly employment changes. Therefore, the claim that these figures are "done over years, not by months" is inaccurate in this context.
    Per AI
The user's statement that "the native-born vs. foreign-born figures are done over years, not by months" is not accurate for Table A-7, which provides monthly data. While there are annual reports with yearly figures, the context of the post and the reference to "table 7" suggest Table A-7, which is monthly. The post's numbers also do not match official BLS data, indicating potential misrepresentation. Therefore, the evidence leans toward the statement being inaccurate, as the figures are indeed reported monthly in Table A-7, accessible at www.bls.gov/cps/documentation.htm for further details.

Garbage in-garbage out. They report the figures for June 2024 and June 2025. There is no figure for May 2025 reported in June 2025. That is because they don't seasonally adjust the figures for native-born vs. foreign-born, making monthly comparisons (i.e., from May to June) fundamentally misleading.

This is table stakes level stuff. Here is the table. It clearly doesn't match the claim that your source made.

    • “Jerome Powell raised concerns over economic data quality affecting Fed policy.

    • Budget cuts and staffing shortages at the Bureau of Labor Statistics could affect data accuracy.

    • Increased data imputations may lead to misleading inflation and employment figures.”

It's really important not just for the Fed, but for Congress and for businesses, frankly, to know what really is going on in the economy," Powell continued. "I don't like to see the kind of stories I'm reading and the idea being that the data is going to become more volatile and less reliable. That'll make it more difficult for the private sector and for you and for us."

Fed chief Powell is starting to worry about the reliability of economic data

No, ADP said that. I don't think that user has a large scale employment survey.

@G8as said that the ADP payroll report indicated a loss of 33k jobs in June. I highly doubt that @G8tas compiled their own report on the June jobs market.
