Being ranked as the 4th most important player is well deserved. He’s been an excellent teammate and leader. Also, his play was outstanding last year. I’m a big Sapp fan. https://247sports.com/college/flori...layer-2025-season-edge-tyreak-sapp-251371908/
Sapp can be the Clayton of the football team, if he has the desire. But there are WAY more moving parts on a football team than there are on a basketball team. But a defensive lineman who can rush the passer while stopping the run is about as good of a singular player at the major college level as there is. The QB needs some help, mainly from his O-line and some skill position competencies. All Sapp needs is a Robin to his Batman.
Shane Matthews has stated multiple times on his podcast that a UF defensive player must step up and take an "Alpha Role" as the guy the opposing offense has to take care of by assigning two blockers and constant attention. if Sapp (or anyone else) is that guy, Shane thinks it would really open up defensive options for Ron Roberts. Makes sense of course.
They need to chip in and get him a pair of football pants that didn't shrink up to nothing in the dryer.
That's a huge task. Even Jalen Carter couldn't do that to us when he was 1 v 1 with Torrence and moved to the other side to face Leonard. Another reason that recruiting is so key to cover all potential weaknesses.
