Unsettling that he somewhat resembles Tex Watson.

Just heard that he does not have to explain how and why he did it. That would explain the families anger.

Sure so they can be released from prison in ten years or so, when he suddenly realizes that he was "forced to plead guilty by an overzealous prosecutor," and that he had nothing to do with the murders. A possibility I hope never comes true.

I don't follow, are you implying that there would be an explanation that would not leave them angry? Or is this more about him having to be directly accountable and receive the accounts from the families? The victim statements and how they are received are interesting sometimes. Sometimes convicted parties seem to show genuine remorse, and I could see that being satisfying on some level. But it's hard to see a rage response received with indifference. That exchange always seems wasteful to me, but maybe it's therapeutic on some level for the family/friends.

I’m a little interest in “why” also… seems pretty random as I don’t recall there being a link between him and the victims, but also planned and targeted. Almost seems like he was trying to use his criminology-major knowledge to see if he could pull off a multiple murder and not get caught.

I thought I read that in some of the speculation back when he was first identified. Don't recall if there was anything to back it up or not. I wonder if that's ever a possibility to include in the plea deal or if there are reasons why it's not practical to include such a thing.

I'm sure they will still be angry but at least they would know why. Did he have an issue with them? Was it entirely random? Did he have a problem with one of them and the rest were just "in the way"?

Looks like the families made some comments about this too, one saying they wanted more answers, another saying they were relieved it was over.

Tax payers expense likely saved by avoiding trial and endless appeals... and far from guaranteed that they get death sentence, make it stick, AND follow through with actual execution.

    Idaho ain't Florida or Texas.

(We've already put 8 killers to death this year alone. Florida is not shy about applying it's DP. Idaho otoh, is pretty leary/reluctant with DP, making it a long shot...).

I have no problem with the plea agreement in general, but i disagree with not requiring a detailed allocution, and definitely find it tasteless that they didn't bother consulting with the vics' fams. That's weak (Legal, but weak).
