I guess I get holding up the missile interceptors but, if true, why halt the 155 mm shells which are critical for Ukraine?

I believe the Czech’s said they were sending a significant amount of 155 rounds to Ukraine this year.

More info on the Friday attack on a Russian airfield where two Su-34 planes were destroyed. This was the base where other Russian planes flee to when their bases are under attack. It was supposed to be a safe zone for Russian military aircraft. Russia uses the Su-34 to launch glide bombs, which are one of the few weapons that are effective against Ukraine's army.

Ukrainian forces launched an attack on a Russian airbase that's used as a fallback spot for fighter jets pulled from more vulnerable locations, a new Western intelligence assessment said.

Ukraine used long-range drones on Friday to strike the Marinovka airbase in Russia's Volgograd region, over 270 miles from the front lines, destroying at least two Su-34 fighter-bomber aircraft.

Russia uses Marinovka for its daily combat operations, but it has also functioned as a haven for dispersed aircraft taken from other threatened airbases, Britain's defense ministry said in a Tuesday intel update that confirmed some details of the attack.

Su-34 fighter-bomber aircraft were relocated to Marinovka from Morozovsk airbase, which is closer to the front lines, after it was hit by Ukrainian drones in August 2024. However, "despite these dispersal efforts to protect their aircraft, Russian aviation remains vulnerable" to Kyiv's attacks, the defense ministry said.

Russia loses yet another Su-34 Fullback jet, this time demonstrating the ineptitude of their newest pilot trainees, one of whom forgot to lower his landing gear before landing. Looks like the most capable Russians fled the country at the outbreak of war, and this is what they are left with.

Hopefully, this pilot will be given another plane so he can demonstrate proper landing technique . . . and then another one after he crashes that one.

A Russian fighter jet has crashed in the Russian Volga region of Nizhny Novgorod. The Su-34 aircraft crashed during a training flight, the Russian Ministry of Defence said on Tuesday.

According to the report, the crew failed to lower the landing gear during the landing approach.

The crew then flew the fighter jet into an undeveloped area and the pilots ejected and survived the crash. The ministry said there was no damage on the ground.

Russia's defense industry is rapidly disintegrating. One of its leading jet manufacturers is laying off 1500 managers, after a decade of losing billions of rubles. It issued a statement saying that it wants to increase production by 30% while laying off massive numbers of these managers. (Uh, what were they managing?)

Russia's fighter jet maker wants to crank out 30% more warplanes while laying off 1,500 managers.

"We plan to raise production effectiveness 30% by 2030," Vadim Badekha, CEO of the United Aircraft Corporation, told state media in a Wednesday report. "It will help produce major volumes under the arms procurement order that will exceed the high figures of last year."

The United Aircraft Corporation, which has no relation to United Airlines, is the Russian defense prime that oversees Sukhoi and Mikoyan — the producers of warplanes such as the MiG-35 and the fifth-generation Su-57 multirole fighter.

Badekha, who took over UAC in November, made his remarks a week after telling Russian media outlet RBC in an interview that his company was looking to "optimize the number of managerial personnel" in its ranks.

"1,500 people, or more than a quarter of the managerial staff," Badekha said, adding that the layoffs were targeted at its Moscow office. It's almost reminiscent of the "Great Flattening" unfolding in the US labor market now, where Big Tech and some of America's largest firms have been ripping out chunks of middle management to go lighter on salaries and efficiency.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — A Ukrainian drone struck a Russian industrial plant some 1,300 kilometers (800 miles) from Ukraine, a local official said Tuesday, after Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy prioritized the weapon's development and Russia pounded Ukraine with a monthly record of drones in June.

Both sides in the more than three-year war following Russia’s February 2022 invasion of its neighbor have raced to improve drone technology and enhance their use on the battlefield. They have deployed increasingly sophisticated and deadlier drones, turning the war into a testing ground for the new weaponry.

Ukraine is under severe strain from a Russian push at places on the roughly 1,000-kilometer (620-mile) front line, but analysts say its defenses are largely holding firm. With recent direct peace talks delivering no progress on U.S.-led international efforts to halt the fighting, Russia and Ukraine are bulking up their arsenals.

The drone struck the Kupol Electromechanical Plant, which produces air defense systems and drones for the Russian military, according to an official with Ukraine’s Security Service, the SBU.

Russia has been trying to push through 50,000 troops through Sumy at Ukraine's northern border to try to make a breakthrough, but Ukraine is holding them at bay. Both sides are using a lot of special forces.

Though Russia has amassed a very large force to try and take Ukraine’s Sumy region, Ukrainian military officials say they have thwarted this summer offensive. Russian sources, meanwhile, claim that the advance is “inevitable.” Sumy is where Ukraine staged its invasion into Russia’s neighboring Kursk region in August 2024. Ukraine still holds territory in Kursk, although a much smaller area than it had at the height the operation. Now Sumy is at the center of a huge fight that has seen both sides deploy some of their best troops.

Though the Russians have poured 50,000 troops into the effort, the offensive has been halted, according to the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff.

“Currently, the situation is stabilized, the advancement of the enemy has been stopped along the line of Junakivka – Yablunivka – Novomikolaivka – Oleksiyivka – Kindrativka” in Ukraine and inside Kursk, the general staff claimed on Facebook. “Our troops maintain defenses along the designated border, conduct preparation and counter-offensive measures to repel the enemy.”

“Earlier this month, Ukraine sent elite commando units from its military intelligence directorate, known as GUR, to help stabilize the situation,” The Wall Street Journal reported. “Since then, the Russian advances in Sumy have been largely stopped, and Ukraine has clawed back some territory.”
