All the money belongs to the UAA/Athletic Dept. All the teams are part of the UAA/Athletic Dept. Having good/competitive teams across the board is good for the UAA/Athletic Dept. If you want football to keep every penny it earns, it likely needs to break away from the UAA/Athletic Dept. I do not think that will have the desired effect.
Many schools have athletic departments without football. Im glad we have that but it should be decisions made by the school instead of title lx. Mens soccer which i dont give two shits about is pretty big these days among kids but we dont have it. Men play more sports but it has to be equal for some reason.
The opportunities have to be proportional, not equal. You don’t have to spend the same amount of money. The UAA chooses to fund the non-revenue sports at the level they do (they’re not funded equally, fyi). You’re welcome to petition UF to spend less on these sports. Hell, if you want the fed funding cut off, you’re welcome to petition UF to ignore title ix all together. I have a feeling you’ll be laughed out of any rooms you find a way into. There’s tons of legislation I don’t agree with, but that doesn’t make it any less a part of my life.
That's exactly it. It's BS and there's nothing we can do about it. 85 football players means there's no soccer players for men.
Soccer would just be another non revenue sport sucking on the football teat. Now that’s what you want? I thought you wanted to get rid of those, not make more.
I want rid of title lx and tge schools do do what they want. Like i said, i dont give two shits about soccer but the fact that their hands are tied is my complaint. They should be able to run the athletic department as they see fit and boosters should be able to support whatever sports they choose.
If UF wanted a mens soccer team, they’d have one. If you’re wanting to abolish title ix, I’ll tell you what my pops always told me: Wish in one hand, shit in the other. See which one fills up faster.
Im sure its not going anywhere and soccer is a financial drain. I realize what i want or how it should be is itrelevant.
While Title IX is the general reason given for the closing of UF's wrestling team in 1979 (and the eventual loss of every other SEC D1 program), the instate wrestling community has always believed Charley Pell to be the chief reason behind it and Title IX as his excuse. Some speculation is about a problem he had with the Clemson team and that he made the end of wrestling at UF a condition of his hire. Other stories are rooted in jealousy of a relatively new, non revenue sport being the most successful sport on campus and already winning a then very rare SEC title. And there's always the simple explanation that less money spent on wrestling meant more money that could be spent on football. But yes, history could be repeating itself in order to keep feeding the football beast.
Maybe we could get a double dutch team of a hundred or so girls. Then we could have whatever sports we want. But what Pain said is probably more the truth, the school would have the jump rope team if they really wanted wrestling, soccer, lacrosse or whatever.
What is your definition of of “real fans” Most that come to Gator games in my opinion are real fans . Why not build a stadium that is comfortable and efficient
Real fans are those who have emotional ties to the team. The other ones believe it is a good idea to show up and be one of those who can afford being there. Think the LA Lakers and NY Knicks. And probably the Dallas Cowboys and the Las Vegas Raiders, if not the LA Rams and the LA Chargers. And to your point about building one for the real fans, it is all about financial viability and return on investment (whatever that means in building large-scale sports venues). Sure, UF can build a $1.5B facility (gotta have a cover and a/c!) somewhere today, but it means the cost to attend games is going to skyrocket, along with the niceties that have been provided. $20 beer and $10 hotdogs or $30 "gourmet" sandwiches or...And then you provide ample parking and charge a crapload for the "privilege" of parking close. And then fund, um, fund raisers with food and drink (ie, pseudo-pregame get togethers) to acquire even more to feed the beast. Does that sound like the game of the regular fans? You think they are going to be all altruistic and just spend crazy money because "the Great Unwashed deserve nice things like LSU"?
Stricklin has said they will be building a new seating structure. They have no choice - they know they can't sell dropping capacity below 80K. They have to offset some of the loss.
There are no federal funds for sports. Its all for Grants, etc. and in Washington attaching a law for something that no one cares about to something everyone cares about is a way of life.
Awesome like the O'dome? Until they put a winning coach and team on the floor they had turned it into a morgue. Let's hope the UAA pays as much attention to attracting top talent to play in the BHG as it does to tweaking the AD's legacy.
Don't go all in drinking the kool-aid like you did for the O'Dome. In your gut, I'm sure you know that any expanded seating areas will be in the "future" plans. They've already published the several options that were on the table several years ago. There are no expanded sections in those schematics.
