No idea who this guy is (was just in my X feed, so apologies in advance if he’s objectionable in some way), but thought this was entertaining:

I hope Iran will abide by any backdoor agreement. We will see.

Most of the reporting in Israeli news outlets were that Israel accomplished its goals. Which was Iran’s nuclear program. Today’s attacks on the IRGC and Iranian secret police were a message that Israel can hit the Ayotollah’s instruments of oppression. If this continues. Maybe Iran has gotten the message

This is one reason I was in favor of us taking out Iran’s nuclear facilities; it removed Israel’s sole stated reason for attacking Iran. While the facilities remain in play Israel wouldn’t have stopped its military campaign and Iran would obviously keep defending to the extent it could (or more accurately try to inflict as much damage on Israel it could inflict). In a weird way it’s a case where violence helped promote peace.

Looks like Israel has lost about $500 billion of infrastructure. That's a lot for a small country.

Israel evidently planned for a short war. Iran has been planning for a long war.

How much infrastructure damage will Israel suffer long term? Will the US taxpayer pay for most or a lot of it?

Before the U.S. and Israeli strikes on its nuclear facilities Iran was a long standing member of the Treaty for the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). The IAEA verifies adherence to the NPT and was able to inspect Iranian facilities. The IAEA knew exactly how much enriched Uranian Iran had produced and where it was stored.

Western intelligence services as well as the IAEA not only confirmed that Iran had no nuclear weapons, they confirmed that Iran did not even have a nuclear weapons program. There were evidently no plans to produce any weapons. (Opinions will vary)

The NPT's objective was to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology and to promote cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy. The second part was the reason why non-nuclear nations have joined the treaty.

The U.S. demand that Iran should stop all enrichment of Uranium, as needed for civilian nuclear reactors, and the attack on Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities make it obvious that Iran is getting deprived of all the positive elements the NPT had promised. There are also serious concerns that the IAEA has leaked the names of Iranian nuclear scientists to Israel which in the end led to their assassinations.
    https://www.moonofalabama.org/2025/06/some-consequences-of-the-war-on-iran.html

So Iran will probably pull out of the NPT and ban the IAEA from Iranian soil, leaving the West in the dark as to what Iran is doung going forward. Perhaps Russia can mediate a solution. Who would trust the US?

Iran is currently depleting Israel's air defense systems with drones and medium range (older?) missiles (evidently). When Israel starts running out of air defense missiles Iran will step up it's attacks and crush Israel.

How many trillions of dollars of damage will Iran inflict on Israel? Will Israel threaten to use a nuclear weapon? Again, who pays for the damage to Israeli infrastructure?

The US will try to send more air defense systems to Israel but their production depends on rare materials. Rare earth elements are currently being withheld from the US by Iran's friend China.

If Iran shuts the Strait of Hormuz and gas prices soar over $100/barrel the US will go into recession (if we aren't in one already. The Republicans then likely lose the House and Senate and Trump becomes a lame duck.

All of this was fairly predictable. It could play out differently of course. Maybe Iran shows mercy and agreed to a ceasefire

(Most of the above was paraphrasing the linked post from Moon of Alabama.)

Iran's ability to project power has been hurt very badly. Iran can't even keep jets from freely flying around their airspace with no threat of being shot down hardly. This has set Iran back years.

The vast majority of Israel's tap water and industrial water comes from 5 desalinization plants. What a juicy target for Iran. Iran has its own water vulnerabilities as well. Dams for example. Things could really get ugly but cooler heads may prevail

Problem with Iran is their missiles are pretty inaccurate and usually miss their target.

Must admit, I did not expect the blog of a guy who used to pretend to be an American on DailyKos to be the replacement when you were forbidden from quoting a sex offender.

If they just aim for the Mediterranean Sea, maybe they get lucky and accidentally hit a desal plant.
