I thought this was pretty interesting and did not see any way thread could start a political fight. It maps a history of the United States as a nation against a single orbit of Pluto around our sun. The entire history of our nation has unfolded in barely more than one orbit around the sun by Pluto.

Interesting stuff, on the flip side, Mercury has orbited the sun 1,032 times since our country was founded.

    Thanks for posting.

I guess you can't blame the name on the discover of the planet, he named in Georgium Sidus.

I see some potential states to be added. Then we can roll out the "Solar System of America" label.

So is Pluto still a planet? I remember there was a move to kick them out years ago.

No, it’s a dwarf planet along with many others in the Kuiper belt.

Eris was discovered in 2005 and named in 2006. At the time they thought it was slightly larger than Pluto and they didn’t want to include Eris as a planet so they changed the way they define a planet so as to exclude both as planets and instead classify them as dwarf planets.

    It is in Arizona.

I was lucky enough to be out at NAU earlier this year and that's where Pluto was discovered. Fascinating place, the observatory in Flagstaff - well worth a short visit if you're in the area.

They're so proud of it, they signed a law a few years ago making it official once more... in AZ at least!

The cosmologists kicked it out, but the planetary scientists may have resisted. I still think it's a planet, even though it's been demoted to planetoid... minor planet... dwarf planet.

I still think of it as a planet.

These trans objects are woke. And Rick wants Pluto to identify as a planet.
