Baked…blazed…man, I miss the Seventies. I lived in a bong.

Had every heart test known to man during the last 3 years with cancer/transplant. Heart’s the best thing I’ve got these days.

I actually don’t know that it is anymore, at least with younger generations.

For years, one of the arguments in support of re-scheduling marijuana federally has been that it would facilitate more and/or better research. I don't know if those research barriers still exist, but I'm definitely good with research. At the same time, I distinguish between concerns about cardiovascular impacts and outright prohibition. Seems fair to point out that we do not seem to place very much weight on generalized public health considerations when deciding whether other activities/risk factors should be legal versus categorically criminalized.

You may be right, and I certainly don’t have statistics, but just from my own vantage point, I see that alcohol is grocery stores, convenience stores, online delivery, restaurants, etc. it is advertised on TV, billboards, radio and the internet. I’d expect that the revenue from liquor-related businesses far exceed by many factors the revenue from legal cannabis. Regardless, that is what I meant when I speculated that it is vastly more prevalent.

A little off topic but since I left the hospital a couple weeks back my pulmanologist has me on oxygen and my cardiologist has me on a portable heart monitor for a couple of weeks. Do you think I should tell them I turn the oxygen off when I light up a cigarette? Safety first I always say.

So this is not a Michael Jordan thread? If anyone could cause heart atracks on the hardwood, it would be MJ.

Journalistic integrity aside, I’m wondering if potential damage from inhaling is permanent or do the effects decrease over say; the next forty years. Asking for a friend.

MJ is being grown into strains at THC levels not seen before. I used to believe that pot was not addictive, but in my line of work, I've realized that thought process no longer rings true. Along with other issues, such as heart issues in the study, new strains are causing depression, anxiety, and an increase in ER visits due to Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome.

This is a more interesting and pertinent line of research in my opinion. Today's weed reportedly isn't the same as what many grew up with. Is it still Marijuana in the traditional sense if the composition of it has changed significantly? Maybe that is the disconnect some of us have with those who see weed as the boogeyman while consuming many other tradionally accepted risks. Perhaps neither side is correctly arguing over the actual subject of the matter.

Imagine your basic 5% beers unknowingly becoming 9 to 11% beers. The average person is going to get knocked off their ass. Impairment accidents and other issues would climb.

I can attest to your point. Several years ago, I switch to Cigar City’s Jaia Low IPA which was a 4% 120 calorie per can beer. After drinking those almost exclusively, when I consumed 2 real beers, I was feeling pretty good.

Recently, we attended the Big Arts and Cultural fest in Gainesville where I decided to drink 4 First Magnitude imperial IPAs over a couple of hours and could really feel the difference.

The problem that I see is that many pro legalization types (and I am generally for legalization BTW) still cling to the notion that there is no evidence that it is harmful, at all. While moderate use for most people seems to be fine, heavy use for some, particularly those prone to other mental illnesses, can be pretty serious.

Years ago at a happy hour we were drinking some beer (or ale or what have you) called something like 3 presidents - I think it was 9 or 10%. I had 6 or 7 over a couple of hours. I was plastered - ended up literallly stumbling my way to a hotel a few blocks away and stayed the night. Woke up the next day in exactly the same position I fell on the bed the night before.

Oh I agree with this completely. I have a few friends that are the other end of the spectrum and need to smoke first thing in the morning and multiple times a day thereafter. Most have some issues from it as well.

I enjoy the occasional 9% up IPA or stout at our local brewery. 2 is my norm. 3 and im definitely drunk but not sloppy. 4 or more and id be a mess. I couldn't do 6 or 7 lol.
