I know some people from my college days that should worry Marijuana use dramatically increases risk of dying from heart attacks and stroke, large study finds | CNN
If you are blazing joints like a pack a day smoker ... that one is sort of on you with all the other delivery options out there
However, edibles may also play a role in heart disease, according to a May 2025 study. (https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamacardiology/fullarticle/2834540)
“We found that vascular function was reduced by 42% in marijuana smokers and by 56% in THC-edible users compared to nonusers,” Dr. Leila Mohammadi, an assistant researcher in cardiology at the University of California, San Francisco, told CNN in a prior interview (https://www.cnn.com/2025/05/28/health/marijuana-edibles-heart-damage-wellness).
“If I was a 60-year-old person who had some heart disease risk, I would be very cautious about using cannabis,” Silver said. “I’ve seen older people who are using cannabis for pain or for sleep, some of whom have significant cardiovascular risk, or who have had strokes or had heart attacks or had angina, and they have no awareness that this may be putting them at greater risk.”
Ok, you could say the same thing about cigars, ice cream or red meat for people with "some heart disease risk" ... if you've had strokes or heart attacks previously, you probably need to make some life changes to prevent more of those things.
Always amazes me how people who readily drink alcohol, take ED drugs or eat themselves into obesity eagerly tout the risks of Marijuana. Not targeted at anyone in particular.
You are amazed? Where is this coming from…it’s just an article about a study. No one is saying obesity is a good lifestyle and alcohol is obviously risky behavior. I don’t get why some folks get frisky about new studies.
I think not using cannabis is making you less interesting and more mean, you should make better choices. Just go to the fake doctor and get your card already.
That’s more like it. It took you a few minutes but you came around with a nice response. And I chuckled…
In this cross-sectional study, 55 participants, sex- and age- matched healthy adults, aged 18 to 50 years, living in the San Francisco Bay Area... I can't be the only one thinking they plucked 55 homeless people for this study...
There are countless fear mongers about Marijuana over the years here and elsewhere. Moderation is usually the key in everything. There are studies that say a glass of red wine a day is healthy and recent ones saying that any alcohol is detrimental. Most people who uses CBD/Marijuana are not "against" alcohol use but there are many many people who use alcohol who are staunchly against CBD/Marijuana use or also indulge in other "risky" but acceptable behaviors. Thats all
True, eating ice cream and hamburgers all the time can cause issues. But that is well known. Not as much awareness on impacts of getting baked everyday.
Getting baked everyday is where I'll agree. How is that different from eating ice cream and hamburgers every day though?
That sort of the road I was on but I pulled out. Seems like those who deflect and mention other bad habits are the MJ users.
Seems that those who have issues with substance abuse control have issues with nuance and moderation.
So cease all new studies on these substances? Close the books? It’s a moderation and self discipline issue…?
