Alan played for the Wareham Gatemen the summer of 2004. I remember they had a night game delay, not for weather, but they had an invasion of skunks came onto the field…. It took some entertaining moments to get the field cleared without “engaging” the critters…
Seeing who's not on the list makes it seem even more apparent that Heyman, Donay, Shelton and Coppola won't be back, don't you think? And what about Kurland? Is he taking the summer off to completely heal or is he moving on as well?
Donay, Shelton, Coppola and Clemente were invited to the MLB combine in Arizona. Heyman is probably playing it safe considering his draft prospects. Suspect Kurland is taking the cautious approach and may not be game ready at this point.
My impression is the top players seldom play in summer leagues as rising seniors and often don't play as rising juniors. It's the summer after frosh year that most is critical for college players and I expect our rising sophss to play somewhere, health permitting.
I agree. The Cape I know would have had about 2 or 3 of the kids on that list. Rest would have been in Vally or Alaska.
Some of the guys listed are not playing but some early updates on those who are. Cyr went 3-3 Tuesday night and is now 5-11 on the young season. McNeillie makes his debut on the mound with Harwich tonight and both Stripling (0-6) and Yost (1-11) are off to slow starts with Wareham.
Man, I have heard the term "skunked" before. I never understood what it really meant. Now I do! Um, getting "skunked" isn't the same as getting "Skinked", but it is close...
Keeping in mind the Cape is a pitchers league and a lot of big names struggle, still some pretty bad numbers for some of our guys currently playing on the Cape: Hayden Yost .150 (3-20) Landon Stripling .083 (1-12) Jaden Bastian .095 (2-21) Note that Notre Dame transfer catcher Carson Tinney, who everyone (including UF) wanted but chose Texas, is currently hitting .067 (1-15) with eight K’s so again, a lot of hitters struggle up there. By the way, Ashton Wilson was placed on the inactive list (a common procedure as more players become available) and it looks like Lawson never reported to Brewster despite being on their initial roster. Lastly, Cyr is still hitting .286 and is the only UF hitter putting up decent numbers.
Good outings for a couple of Gators on the Cape tonight. Three more hits and two RBI for Cyr and he is currently hitting .345 (currently 4th highest in the Cape). Also, McNeillie threw four hitless innings and currently has a 1.29 ERA giving up just one run in seven innings.
