That would require the assumption that the Iranians would live up to their side of the deal, which they have a documented history of not doing.
I would hope that the fbi, homeland security etc are a higher alert footing in the event bad actors try to pull some shit in the US.
This would have never happened if Biden was president. The world doesn't respect Trump as president or CiC. Sarcasm. Just making fun of MAGA.
Regardless I think a lot of other countries were on that deal also and Iran isn't following it though Iran says the others violated it by not lifting sanctions as agreed. And Iran was getting close to having nukes according to Israel which has the best intelligence on them I would think. I doubt this is a Saddam defense companies just wanting a war situation.
I’ve got no problem with that position. But frankly the next administration that gets Israel to come to heel in fair exchange for the billions of dollars we gift them directly (and more billions we provide to their defense indirectly) will be the first. And that’s not Israel’s fault. That’s our fault.
I think that's somewhat true, but Obama did a deal with Iran, which Bibi opposed, and the Israeli government could have pulled a similar move. I think their brazeness is a fairly recent development, and no doubt fueled by their governing coalition needing far-right parties.
I’ve been pretty clear on here that the President is not my favorite guy, and there are lots of reasons I disagree with him politically. But, sorry, pulling out of that deal was a wise decision. It does not matter how much you wish it so, the IRGC was not honoring the deal, and the general government of Iran had no interest (it says power) in compelling the IRGC to honor it. We are just going to go around and around on this, so I’ll just leave it at this. The deal was worth trying. Once it was clear Iran was not going to honor the spirit of the agreement, we had a duty to terminate it, not to pretend as if they were honoring it because it was politically embarrassing to admit otherwise. Full disclosure: I was against the idea of striking Iran to prevent them acquiring nuclear weapons. First, I don’t think strikes can guarantee that (we will see here very soon). Second, I prefer to maximize their economic and political isolation as a reward for having nukes. If they want to be North Korea, then let’s help them. Third, I would make devastatingly clear what would happen should the spirit ever compel them to use a nuclear weapon. “Congratulations on having a weapon you can only use in a doomsday scenario. Its use guarantees the complete destruction of your totalitarian regime as well as much of Iranian civilization as collateral damage.” The world did not come to a screeching halt when Pakistan, North Korea et al got the bomb. We would find a way to adjust to a world where Iran has it as well.
I addressed that point already. You should have read a little further downthread before throwing me a “come on, man.”
