I'm starting to think that TACO Trump never really cared about any of this in the first place, and that he only wanted to be President to stay out of jail and steal.

This is what the admin should've said from the beginning. Ask all people here illegally to come forward and do a background check. If they haven't broken the law since they've been here(no felonies) and maybe make a timeframe of being here longer than 10 years, then I'm ok with them staying here but not be able to be citizens. Should be some penalty(maybe community service) for coming here illegally. Think something similar would be a good compromise for both sides. Anyone here under 10 years illegally then leave voluntarily and go get back in line to enter our country legally. If you are caught and didn't leave voluntarily then sorry, deport them and then restrict them from ever coming back to the US. Have to have a secure border as well as have deterrents in place to stop people from trying to enter our country.

Yep, the left and the right are so dumb they both go so far either way that the people in the middle think both sides are idiots. Would love a 3rd party that actually is rational. But that's a pipe dream...

Very possible. Anyone remember that during his first term Trump entered into an agreement with Schumer and Pelosi regarding Dreamers/DACA recipients (immigrants who entered the country illegally as children) under which the Dems would support the funding of Trump's wall in exchange for amnesty for the DACA recipients? Ann Coulter went on one of the Fox News television shows and bashed Trump using language to the effect that he was betraying his base after which Trump backed out of the agreement. It's very possible that he could do the same with amnesty for farmworkers and hotel employees although in the case of those categories of illegals there is a much larger economic factor than there was with the "Dreamers".

Agree in principle, with some reservations. First, there is no "line" to get into if someone leaves. That's part of the problem in the first place. If there was a legal way to enter, many of those who entered legally would have happily done so in the first place. It was a major problem with Reagan's amnesty; no consideration for future issues. This needs to fixed and a "line" created so we can meet our immigrant labor demands with legal supply.

Second, the 10-year mark is arbitrary, and might not solve the problem for an unknown number of employees we wish to solve. And that's making sure companies have the needed labor. If, for example, a company has the majority of their immigrant labor here for less than 10 years, then you aren't solving the problem by deporting all who have been here for less than 10 years. A potential better solution would be a sliding scale, where those here longer have to pay less of a fine and/or do less community service to get a work visa.

Last, the no pathway to citizenship ever goes against the American tradition of no taxation without representation. Now, if the immigrants decide to remain a permanent alien, that's their decision. And many would choose this option because it makes returning home much easier, and a good portion of immigrants from the Americas do return home. But if they choose to permanently stay, there needs to be a pathway to citizenship in order to give these people a voice in their community through their vote. It's the only fair thing to do.

Other than that, I have stated for years we need an updated guest worker program that allows those willing to work and stay out of legal trouble to work here legally. It won't solve all our immigration and border issues, but it will go a long way to making things better.

We need many more guest visas. I read where Rand Paul said this and that pleasantly surprised me, but why did he wait until Republicans had control before he said this? Hmmmm.....

Out of curiosity why 10 years? If you’re going to set a time why not go back to when Trump left office the first time?

I picked an arbitrary time frame. And I'm not playing politics about who was President 10 years ago. I think if someone was here 10 years and never had a felony then I think that's a good barometer of them being a productive member of society. Anyone under 10 years? Sorry, have to make tough decisions. They came here illegally and cut the line. I think because we have less people trying to get into the country illegally then we can increase work permits for foreigners, but make sure they are properly vetted as opposed to just letting anyone in the country like has been happening.

It wasn’t political so much as looking for a cutoff tied to something. I assumed you were thinking 10 years created some kind of vesting right and was curious what that was.

I just didn’t see why ten years had any real significance. It seems odd to me to deport people that were in country during Trump’s first term and have committed no crimes. He let them be last time so just leave them be again so long as they clear a background check and continue to stay that way. To me would be a logical and meaningful vesting cutoff vs choosing a random time period.

Hey Trumpies, you got conned again! And this time he's outright admitting it ... and less than 5 months in! :) :) :)

The guidance was sent on Thursday in an email by a senior ICE official, Tatum King, to regional leaders of the ICE department ....

Effective today, please hold on all work site enforcement investigations/operations on agriculture (including aquaculture and meat packing plants), restaurants and operating hotels,” he wrote in the message.

When even Joe Rogan is speaking out against the jack-boot ICE thugs, you know MAGA world is starting to get worried about the perception of this going into the mid-terms:

I’m a conservative who’s a lifelong registered republican (but will register as independent now that we’ve moved) who voted against the progressive dogma in the last three elections eg for Trump. I don’t consider myself a member of the MAGA crowd (really just anti-progressive dogma) but I’m sure most progressives on Too Woke consider me to be MAGA. So, to those who consider me to MAGA, I will respond.

I’ve always supported a process by the federal government to document the “undocumented”, ie illegal aliens, who are (1) not known to have committed crimes in the US, beyond illegal entry in the US, or any other nation, and (2) gainfully employed in the US. I think they should be allowed to remain in the US as long as they work, pay taxes, and do not commit a serious crime.

I know this is not as simple process as my comment might imply, but I think it’s the better option if deportation of all illegal aliens is the other option. I don’t and didn’t agree with policy of deporting all illegals.

Then I'm sure that you expressed your support for the Democrat immigration bills that were shot down by the GOP when Obama and Biden were in office
