Other than the home runs, which I admit is like asking Mrs. Lincoln "how did you like the play other than the ending", she pitched pretty well down the stretch. We haven't a clue, as is norm for this program, what her actual injury was that kept her on the shelf for five weeks, and how that (whatever it was) might still have affected her.
I think good luck to her. No point in her being a Gator if she was unhappy. I was really impressed by Gerry Glasco's interviews at the WCWS, hopefully she will be a better fit for him, and her mum keeps her nose out!
He definitely earned some points in my book, and beyond just the story about his daughter’s tragic death which I and most of us were already aware of. That said tampering rumors going back to April puts a less positive spin on the narrative. Of course the shining pinnacle of softball that Gasso is has been doing that stuff for years imo so just a big whateverburger I guess. Pay to win is the name of the game now.
To give proper perspective to the defensive infield history at UF, we usually have an extremely high defensive % as a group. It is very very rare we have a position that is subpar defensive %. Hannah Adams played 2nd for us - her senior year in 2021 she was gold glove winner with .981 fielding defensive %. In the 2020 season - Sophia Reynoso played Short Stop for us - she never hit for average but she solely played because of her defense and her senior year 2020 she had a fielding defensive % at short stop of .990. If you have a fielding % below .950 which is what Mia had the last two years then that issue was going to be addressed. Your baseline for any baseball or softball team should be defensive and pitching.
Tampering is part of the game now. If your big money isn’t playing that game, they’re handicapping themselves. Unless members of your coaching staff are directly involved and leaving a paper trail, there is no consequences.
Exactly right. Hannah Adams actually had 2 years, 2018 & 2022, where she went error free!! That's amazing. Her career fielding was .986. I'm pretty sure you can look back through Tim Walton's entire coaching career at Florida and not find a 2nd baseman (or a shortstop for that matter) who had a lower fielding percentage than Williams (.944 in 2024 & .938 this year) & Holtorf (.940)
I can't think of a season where we had defensive % at 3rd, short and 2nd below .950 collectively. We did not necessarily see that in the post season for the most part but the regular season had issues that did cost some games. If you don't think Tim is not going to begin addressing that issue in the off season then you are crazy. Tim has usually been a first defense and then offense 2nd. This was one of the rare times where he did the reverse concept.
Hannah was very good-probably much better than the statistics show. She seemed to always be in the right position and make the right decision when she got the ball. Can’t say the same for MIA. Besides the errors charged, there were many times she was out of position, slow to react, appeared clumsy and did not make the best moves that did not result in an error. Every chance was an adventure.
And some are saying they promised Williams that she will play SS at Tech? Good luck with that Glasco.
It’s not a secret. If you watch anything other than non revenue sports, you could see it coming a mile away.
lol....Mia is just a great kid and a great Gator who was railroaded by her lunatic mother and had to leave. If you believe that, I have ocean front property in Nebraska for sale if anyone is interested.
