Holdouts have already surfaced with the QB at TN. Didn't go well for him this time, but, it did happen. The first strike will end it for me, too, though.
Not that I disagree, but what happens if the first step is righteous - and I use this word sincerely and soberly - booing with passion a bunch of kids on the playing field or court? I mean, if "youth" says "I made it, time to rest and relax" whereas they likely were born on third base and the coach called a squeeze bunt with no outs and a 2-0 count, with a top bunter at the plate against a straight-line-throwing fastball pitcher, isn't booing a righteous form of voting? I would prefer leaving the stadium or arena en mass, but that takes discipline and planning/organization. I seriously doubt the masses would actually do this after spending so much time and money to get to the event only to voice that level of discontent. Again, are we having any fun yet?
I think you're more likely to see a lockout than a strike unless a lot of things change. The players are getting what they want right now. FTR, I don't think you'll see either in the near future.
We are in the "honeymoon" stage of financial windfalls. It would take a heck of an effort to collude against the players to make it anything more than a "don't pay attention to the details and have some fun" line to us rubes. The more I think about it, the hardcore booing is probably going to be the first action.
I'll never understand people who boo their own team, players, and coaches. The whole point in being a fan is to root for your team. If you hate them enough to boo them, find someone else to root for, or find a new hobby.
If I may opine, to me it is a sign of someone who can not fathom voting with their wallets, although that IS what we should do. None of the big businesses give a damn if you complain. What gets their attention is a reduction in income. So, if your base is a bunch of rubes who won't do their due diligence, what other choice do they have? And remember, we aren't talking about Johnnie who was 6 months from graduating with his HS class and he is no longer in Kansas, we are talking about Andrew Wiggins without the accolades who decides that college success has nothing to do with him. He will be crying all the way to the bank. And so...
To me, that's six-of-one or half-a-dozen of another. If football stops due to player money issues, my season ticket purchases will end commensurately.
If they lose 20k tix itll get their attention but strikes in football and baseball while it lost them some fans, they replaced them without issue.
That's not really true. Baseball attendance and viewership was down for a good while after the strike. Only came back during the McGwire/Sosa homerun show.
