Good point by the NCAA. I didn't see him having much of a case to begin with, but I quit predicting rulings a long time ago.
Me, too. And not just out of schadenfreude for Ziegler. We gotta let the young kids feed from the trough, too. I get it, for most NCAA "student athletes" their college playing careers will be the pinnacle of their yearly earnings in their life. Hard to blame ZZ for trying (though we will).
Exactly. It’s not the NCAA’s job to get everyone into professional leagues. Collegiate sports are their own end, and the NCAA should have authority to set their own criteria for eligibility. And as you point out, we just wouldn’t want athletes taking up scholarships for 8-10 years.
Methinks he has been sold by an ambulance chaser. They get "creative" for their clients in order to get paid. It is beginning to be a harsh reality moving forward and IMO it all has to do with the House settlement. There IS no college level, noble-minded sports "amateurism with benefits", it is all professional sports. The argument is pretty plain: I have value at this level and the "Grand Poobas" won't let me earn a living from the toothless goobers who actually believe in the Tooth Fairy (no, I didn't say "teeth fairy"). Not really a bad argument at all in light of what is the landscape today. It is merely another layer of the veneer being pulled away and now we see the ugly and rudimentary structure underneath.
The USC Fighting Incontinents! I hear they are a "running" team. Or is it a team that has the runs? Their biggest rival are the UOaC (Universally Old and Cranky) Pseudo-Joints. Their claim is they replace their parts every few years in order to keep them upright. The up-and-coming team in the league are the UGx (Underserved Generation X) Chopped Livers. What they lack in numbers they make up in guile. They honestly believe they are just as good as the legacy teams, which they plainly are NOT. They were merely a bunch of "new money" startups and not the "real thing". Honest (says the legacy teams). But they all take homage to the oldest and wisest team: Geriatrics College. Their team was built on a solid foundation of a constant wave of incoming talent. Once the other teams' players are prepared, they move up to play for this team. Yes, they are a wheelchair based team, but their long-term mastery allows for a real change of pace, usually in the form of honor or guilt by the other teams. And they are great at making layups under the basket. It is just that the basket they are laying up to isn't always their basket. And so, a lot of tie ballgames. And yes, they are great dribblers. It is just that what they are dribbling needs to be cleaned up regularly. And so, between the cleaning up and long sleeping spells, the games can last long. And unfortunately, the personnel can "leave the court permanently" a bit too often. It isn't a very pretty game, but it does eventually manifest. Bless their collective hearts and minds.
Having read this, which made me laugh. I don’t need to ask you what you’ve been doing full time for the last 3 weeks.
