A Miami Republican who co-founded the group Latinas for Trump is condemning President Donald Trump’s mass-deportation campaign and blasting recent immigration enforcement actions as harmful.

“This is not what we voted for,” State Sen. Ileana Garcia said in a statement on Saturday. “I have always supported Trump, through thick and thin. However, this is unacceptable and inhumane.”

The public remarks from one of Trump’s longtime supporters come as the president’s immigration policies cause stress and uncertainty in South Florida. Trump’s executive orders and the Department of Homeland Security’s actions have targeted hundreds of thousands of immigrants in the region, including Cubans and Venezuelans — communities that threw their support behind Trump during the November election, helping him win Miami-Dade County.

Not only she, but other South Florida GOP members are now speaking out. Stephen Miller has pissed her off. Too little too late. No one feels sorry for them

To that state senator: no, this is "what you voted for." However, avoidance due to cognitive dissonance convinced you that you voted for something else. But he didn't hide the ball on this one. Violence was always going to be a crucial tool. Now, if you regret that vote, I think there is room to discuss how to move forward together and oppose Trump and the role of violence in politics. But it starts with the recognition that this is what you have been voting for this entire time and a recognition that isn't right and needs to change.

    Right here
I am going to disagree here. I am unfamiliar with Ileana Garcia, but I don’t think it is unreasonable that she heard Trump say he was going to deport “illegals” and did not believe that included asylum seekers who are here legally. And I don’t think we need to make her agree that she’s been voting for this the entire time before we try to protect innocent and legal residents. Maybe you or I saw further than Sen. Garcia in this case, but no one sees the future perfectly. At least she admits this is wrong, unlike many others who continue to defend all of Trump’s demonstrably illegal actions.

I do wonder what she thought when people were holding up "mass deportation" signs during the RNC? Like it is conceivable that if you inhale enough conservative media you think there are 10s of millions of illegal immigrant criminals taking over apartment complexes or whatever. At some point, maybe some self-reflection is warranted.

It matters not if they are mad at trump. They will still vote to own the libs. Right?

It’s like two spoiled toddlers who absolutely must get their own way or throw tantrums and blow up the system.

Most folks probably agree on 90% of issues, but no, not good enough, lets have our own states. Smdh. Morons.

She's a fool, like so many who voted for Trump. Trump campaigned on mass deportations.

Congress has failed time and time again to enact meaningful immigration reform. We didn't need to wind up here in such drastic circumstances.
Yet the Latino communities continued to elect do-nothing panderers like Marco Rubio and Rick Scott.
How you vote matters. Las elecciones tienen consecuencias.

While I feel for those that don’t deserve this, I have a bit of disdain for these types such as this lady - who are surprised he is doing exactly what he said he do.

She is angry at the removal of TPS for people from oppressive regimes like. Venezuela. Those people were here legally. And the removal of asylum seekers who the law permitted to apply and who followed proper procedures to apply. They become illegal through the expediency of simply removing TPS or other acts that deny them hearings on asylum applications. And she convinced her constituents— Venezuelan Americans and other people to vote for Trump because he was anti-Maduro and would protect the non-citizens who fled Venezuela etc. Why don’t you stop generalizing and calling TPS immigrants illegal. They came here legally. Do you want them deported to Haiti, Venezuela or Cuba? Because this isn’t about legal immigration. It’s about being anti-immigrant. That’s why they eliminated TPS. To change the rules. Conditions are not better in Haiti, Venezuela or Cuba.
