9: the earliest F$U can theoretically win a baseball NC June 2026. 9 years after the Gators won a NC. That is 9 years of knowing we have what you want but cannot get. 9 years of holding your heads in shame every time you watch your team play the Gators and are reminded that we are the 2017 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS and you are crap. 9 years of pressure building exponentially on Jarett to deliver what the LONR could not do. 9 years of walking into Condron for that yearly mid-week game and seeing an enormous sign that reminds you of just how crappy your program truly is. Mike Martin may have been the Lord of NO Rings, but he was also the lord of all bridesmaids. I say Gator Nation tries its best to make it a full decade by hexing you out of it again next year. 3: The number of years that Link Jarett is into his initial contract. He was hired with the expectation of a NC within 5 years. I trust my source deep within the Hole athletic department. All conversations between the Hole powers and Jarett in 2022 centered on the words “national championship.” Not culture, philosphy, bringing the program back or restoring the “glory” (really need to examine what that word meant) of the LONR days, erasing the 3 years of Meat, etc. It was all “national championship, national championship, and national championship. Hole powers said to Jarett “well we fully expect you to bring one home within 5 years.” Is it outlined in his contract? Unlilely. Will he be fired if he doesn’t win one within 5 years? Probably not. But it sure as hell will make for an awkward conversation between him and the AD when they meet after year 5 to discuss “the state of the program” and he is empty-handed. Their Gator envy and the fact that we won a NC 8 years ago and counting is. daily motivating/dismotivating factor for their program. It’s all they think about. They simply cannot stand the shame anymore. The pain of the Holes is fuel for the Gator soul!
Link Jarrett is a very good baseball coach for what it's worth. Also an even better human being. He will be there a long time and will certainly be a tough opponent. Will he break their curse remains to be seen.
It can be argued that the LONR was not a bad human being. But he was so much fun to dislike! Still early into Jarett’s term. His players seem to have attitudes. They are fighters, though.
I think Link is pretty safe at this point. He's done a good job there to this point, they're going to be a top 10-12 team annually under him. The ultimate suckage for that program would be them moving to the Big 10. Not much of a baseball conference outside of the schools on the West Coast.
That will likely change in this new era. We know the Holes are desperate to win a baseball Nc but they will never sacrifice football in order to do it. When they feel the pinch of not competing with their NIL because of the ACC contract they may rob baseball to give to football. How will Jarett feel about such a move?
I think they would sacrifice basketball before they touch baseball. And they're on a bad spot if they think taking from baseball will help them much in football.
I like to remind nole friends (yes, have some) that they have never won a NC in basketball, only went to Final 4 one time then went on probation for the players King and Petty $$ and that they have never won NC in baseball and, lastly, that the same number of NCs in football as UF are marked with "Tainted Title", "Crab Legs Looter", and a 27 year old QB.
