Sully -Wow

In a nutshell it’s a lot easier to hit when you’re constantly in a 2-0 count. That’s where our pitchers kept their hitters. Lack of command of your own repertoire of pitches is setting yourself up to fail.

Our hitters were not as competitive for entire AB’s as it was going to take to win the game. IMO, with the season on the line you need inspiration—it was not the day to take the field flat.

 

It wasn't a public conversation. It was a conversation in the general presence of other people authorized to be in the vicinity, but there were signs and security staff enforcing the absence of anyone not authorized. My guess is that Sully asserted exactly the points in this post in roughly the same words, with other words- including F-bombs- added.

I hate the term snowflake that is used to insult people who try to behave with kindness, but a college baseball coach and others who are at home in baseball dugouts are familiar with -bombs in exactly the surroundings of this event. The CC coach certainly earned a snowflake insult, but the guys in the video didn't appear to wilt at the language. I appreciate the effort of the poster whose only complaint was that females might have heard a naughty word, but my mom, who made it to 98, would have referred to HIM as a snowflake for asserting that because of her gender she shouldn't be allowed to hear normal language in such a setting. And she was a sweet southern matron who knew which behaviors were offensive and which weren't. Sully's complaint and the language clearly fit THAT setting, but later were raised by a snowflake in what I perceived as an effort to show off and insult me and people I like. My momma probably would agree.

 

All good points. To the loss, I am sure it was/is an indicator of how limited this team was and the clock struck midnight...LOUD. It is baffling, after how it got the ship righted, then held on and grew, at least until Heyman got hurt. Heyman is a fine catcher and his absence may explain some of the problems with the pitching during the tourney (at least how to settle them down and all) but still, one less bat should have not changed the offensive dynamic all that much. Just a complete team mess in ECU game 2.

To the "F-bomb" tirade, yeah, it is probably close to normal, at least in "proper circles". But staffers are not your team or other coaches. I would agree Sully's attempt to be "baseball" to their player who was not a part of his ire was a step too far. And for that he owed a real mea culpa. But to the first aspect, which is why the profanity-laced tirade in the first place? IMO, where he lost it was why was he that emotionally involved in this team? I seriously doubt he had the makeup (pitching especially) to make a serious run at a NC. Injuries pretty much made it impossible. So, sooner or later they were going to go home early.

As I said, he owed the player a big apology. But the rest, as much as it should have been better handled, was almost exclusively about a "private moment" that turned out not to be private. Not to make it "too hot" but it is like when a police officer is engaging what is considered a perp (at least potentially to them) and the "innocent bystanders" pull out their phones and record the incident. And you hope they get everything and not just the middle of it all. There is a reason why books/novels are hundreds of pages and not just Reader's Digest articles. Context takes time, including things that are outside that exact incident. Have you ever heard of the straw that broke the camel's back? It is a real thing...on all sides.

And so, the "innocent bystander" got inside the baseball walls and saw something "less-than-what-they-are-used-to"...IF they are truly innocent. And as a result, Stricklin had to do his thing, along with Sully. I just hope Stricklin's "thing" wasn't the straw that breaks Sully's back due to other issues, but I am not privy to anything that may make it so. It is just one of those "Gator Fan Anxieties".

And so, my final take (hopefully) is: the dust has settled, time to return to the game...

 

What a freaking beta. Man up and get over it... Sure Sully was out of control and deserves what our AD gives him, but this man crying about other people getting verbally disrespected is feigned indignation at best. I thought that "dude" was about to cry... wussie.

 

It doesn’t take much for some to show their true colors.

 

Sully gets sweary... 124 posts... are we still talking about this?

Bad for the brand. Chipper Jones slammed us on ESPN when he said only one team in the entire tournament was worthy of wearing the jersey and he called out Coastal. He commended everyone from top to bottom, the players for wearing the jersey like it means something, how they played the game without taunting like so many teams were doing, and he commended the coaches. But he then turned to us without mentioning us. How some coaches can issue more f-bombs than Joe Peschi in any of his gangster movies. You know he was talking about Sully. He went further to say he won't be watching "that" team from here on out. He's not some Youtube personality, he's a major figure in pro baseball and he carries a ton of weight, especially in southern programs. That could impact recruiting.

It’s almost comical that he would play the righteous card with his own track record.

 

MEH, most HS recruits don't even know or care who chipper jones is.

 

I'm a braves fan but the heck with Chipper Jones. I hate what happened but some of the follow-up pompous grandstanding is ridiculous.

I saw the Chipper comments.. Hes been to a few AU games this year, wonder if he sat in Coastal sction lastnight if he was there? lol dont think he was.

I also saw an article titled 'Chipper calls out own alma mater'..lol Nevermind the fact didnt go to college & was a Cane committ. He was quoted in article saying he was a Florida boy and Gators were always his team he rooted for.

Did Schnall really ask for todays game to be pushed back?? I kind of figured they would, but appears not.. No open tv spots on the platforms I guess.

Schnall is heading to UVa anyways Im sure.

 

If I understand you correctly, and I do appreciate your posts, if we keep our current pitching coach and change nothing about teaching our pitchers how to pitch and not just throw, then not much will change pitching wise moving forward.

 

In a nutshell, correct—you have to implement change to effectively make the necessary change.

 

Guess ole Larry ain’t so Chipper any more. Maybe he should change his kiddie nickname from Chipper to Grumper now that he is an old curmudgeon…
