How does he know he's going to be around for 40 more years? Might as well spit in the eye of God/Fate.

Probably has more to do with with Trump's "shame if we terminated those contracts" post

It’s happened to many others that danced with Trump.

“President Donald Trump threatened to cut Elon Musk’s government contracts as their fractured alliance rapidly escalated into a public feud Thursday.”

Yet another businessman that regrets allying with Trump. I wonder who will sue the other first?

Isn't this already known though? He's on the flight logs.

My interpretation is that he's not referring to what's already publicly known. That wouldn't be "dropping the bomb"

Given that there is no real alternative for launch services it's unlikely that Trump will actually terminate all government contracts with SpaceX although it wouldn't surprise to see the resurrection of the NHTSA investigation of Tesla's autonomous driving system or the EPA and FAA investigations of SpaceX or even the NLRB investigation of Tesla for unfair labor practices all of which I had assumed were dead and gone.

Trump would absolutely do it out of spite. He doesn't care.

I guess Trump could always turn to the Russians to provide launch services to transport supplies and astronauts to the ISS and maybe Boeing and Bezo's Blue Origin if they can demonstrate that they have the capability to do so reliably. I'm not sure that SpaceX can be replaced as the primary contractor for launch services for the DOD. Although I'm not really all that knowledgeable on the subject I don't think that the Space Force (still want to call the service the Air Force) has sufficient capacity using it's own launch vehicles).

Trump would absolutely cripple key government functions out of spite. Punching back at anyone who he believes has wronged him is his core guiding philosophy.
