Remember when the Trump administration pretended to care about merit? It is kind of funny that they made so many of their supporters pretend that they were hiring on merit. Meanwhile, in reality, here are two of their recent hires (two links, so the thread shouldn't be re-named after either article): Hire #1: Thomas Fugate, a recent UTSA graduate with no national security experience will lead the DHS office charged with combating violent extremism. But, he was in Model UN, so there is that (literally, that appears to be his level of experience). Seems like classic, entry-level stuff. Hire#2: Paul Ingrassia is leading the Office of the Special Counsel, a major government ethics office. Now, he is 30, but he did just graduate from law school a few years ago, took a couple of years to pass the bar, and has a whole year of experience. His previous career was as a far-right wing podcast host that liked to dabble in Anti-Semitism (remember when Trump fans would pretend to care about that issue to get rid of immigrants or bash colleges or whatever). https://www.npr.org/2025/05/30/nx-s1-5417902/trump-ingrassia-antisemitism-ethics But on the bright side, he was one of Andrew Tate's lawyers (and a big supporter of his ideology)! And he claims that he only accidentally attended events by Anti-Semites (that he also supported on social media). So, in conclusion: Merit hiring!

The most relevant issue with hires like this, of course, are that they leave the country and populace unserved .... and unsafe. It's the governments job to serve the people. MAGA will scroll right by though. They don't care. The important thing to them is serving the Trump.
