The Trump administration knew that the vast majority of the 238 Venezuelan immigrants it sent to a maximum-security prison in El Salvador in mid-March had not been convicted of crimes in the United States before it labeled them as terrorists and deported them, according to U.S. Department of Homeland Security data that has not been previously reported. President Donald Trump and his aides have branded the Venezuelans as “rapists,” “savages,” “monsters” and “the worst of the worst.” When multiple news organizations disputed those assertions with reporting that showed many of the deportees did not have criminal records, the administration doubled down. It said that its assessment of the deportees was based on a thorough vetting process that included looking at crimes committed both inside and outside the United States. But the government’s own data, which was obtained by ProPublica, The Texas Tribune and a team of journalists from Venezuela, showed that officials knew that only 32 of the deportees had been convicted of U.S. crimes and that most were nonviolent offenses, such as retail theft or traffic violations. The data indicates that the government knew that only six of the immigrants were convicted of violent crimes: four for assault, one for kidnapping and one for a weapons offense. And it shows that officials were aware that more than half, or 130, of the deportees were not labeled as having any criminal convictions or pending charges; they were labeled as only having violated immigration laws. Trump Administration Knew Most Venezuelans Deported to El Salvador Had No U.S. Crime Convictions — ProPublica We all knew they were lying like they always do. Always inflating numbers and then doubling down on it. So now we are sending people to a maximum security prison in another country for committing a civil offense?
I've asked on other threads, but have yet to receive an answer. So I'll ask again. Is it OK to send persons to prison for life despite the fact they have never been convicted of a crime, or even charged with a crime?
So Trump knowingly sent convicted people to prison, absent any sort of conviction or criminal procedure. This is just confirmation of what we already knew. So the only interesting questions are; How many Trump supporters are comfortable with this? and How many Trump supporters will read this thread and just scroll past, while they pretend that this didn't happen, or isn't still happening?
How many Trump supporters are comfortable with this? all of them and How many Trump supporters will read this thread and just scroll past, while they pretend that this didn't happen, or isn't still happening? all of them
A certain German Reich also once sent persons not convicted of a crime to prisons. Only, they called them Concentration Camps. Can anyone tell me the difference between what they did and what the US is currently doing, please?
None, it's a concentration camp clear as day. And nicely located so that no one can protest outside it's doors. Out of sight out of mind.
Yes, but first we have to examine Otherism - the practice of establishing that another group is different, so that a populace will subconsciously tolerate abusing that group. It's been prevalent in history since the Paleolithic times. That noted, the main difference is that the population of Germany tolerated obvious and known human rights abuses because the "other" group was ethnically different from them. Whereas in the United States today, we tolerate obvious and known human rights abuses of another group of people because they are ....... ..... wait, never mind.
LAWFARE being waged by a lunatic faction of our government and executive branch. Except there's no law involved, and it surely isn't fair.
