Why would any university president agree to come when the BOG might pull the rug out from under them and leave them without a job? At this point, I doubt we could pull the President of Eastern Kentucky University.

Agreed. Would think the only ones who apply now are underqualified right-wing political hacks who see this as an opportunity to benefit themselves. Someone like Sasse or Donald Trump, Jr. gets approved by this BOG without batting an eye…

I mean as a guy on the inside of uf I can tell you that it’s a mess. This whole uf rocketing to the top is gonna end soon without real academic administrative leadership. Weve only had a president one year out of the last three and he didn’t know what he was doing. Central admin is in complete disarray, most colleges are frozen stiff. Another year of searching and interviewing will be bad. Especially coupled with all the research cuts federally. Uf desperately needs leadership.

    Holy hell.

Is there a sane “conservative” anywhere?

The law school has had an interim dean for over two years. That isn't to throw shade at her. She's doing her best and is a very bright person. But it's no way to run a university.

Yeah, tough to set any sort of long-term strategic plan with an interim. Hard to hire, especially for Senior Faculty.

I served on the Law center Board Of Trustees with Dean Jerry and Dean Rosenbury. I almost feel shamed to tell people that now. I see a Richard Corcoran dismantling of UF coming. My four children all went there and now were about to become a joke

I wonder how far UF will drop in university rankings and how soon. This is the beginning of the end.

Would be good, but I doubt it happens. I think RD was fine with the pick originally, or else Ono wouldn't have applied. With the Trump baboons beating their chest, to appoint Ono kills any hope for future political advancement. Really disappointing situation.

That means nothing to me right now. Academics always come first and UF has made tremendous strides over the last few decades. Right now, UF is a national disgrace. This is all over the news. Wait til the grants disappear, the donors pull back and the application pool shrinks. Don't think for a moment that high school guidance counselors aren't paying attention. The folks at US News are paying even closer attention. Academic freedom is one of their most important metrics.

UF will never get another dime from me until some sort of sanity returns.

Ironically applications might be the one thing that doesn't suffer. They went up drastically lastbyear, we have become the higher achieving refuge for half the political spectrum. Short term, our grants might not either, a given the political winds blowing. But yeah, as I said above, my money spigot is shut off. Not that anyone in Tallahassee cares, donations could go to near zero, but if they win the culture war it’s all worth it.

Maybe DeSantis will get himself appointed. He has what, 1.5 years left in his term with no real plan afterward? Maybe this was why he was so silent during all the debates on Ono.

Sad thing is, if they win the culture war, they'll be screwing our state's future. But that's the unfortunate result of politicians who don't care about what happens long term as long as they personally get ahead.
I wouldn't put it past him.

Your money to do with as you please, but all the same garbage impacting us impacts them, some already has, the rest will in the future. The Sasse debacle lies at least in part on our trustees, but they did the right thing this time, it was Tally that screwed us and they will do the same thing to FSU if given the chance. Look around the state and some of their other actions like at New College, it’s a statewide effort. But again, your choice.
