On the bright side, the Trump administration is busy doing their best to destroy the entire university system, so this might not matter too much...

Is the IFAS dean next up on the interim President tag?

you can pretty much guarantee it will have to be a political appointment now. No reputable academic administrator will risk it after that.

I think they’ll ask Joe glover, the former and now interim provost.

Many of these people have decided that they want to destroy higher education because of their pathetic, petty, little grievances. Doesn't matter if it'll destroy the economy. Doesn't matter if it'll set science, medicine, technology, and knowledge back generations. I'm glad that I'll soon be leaving Florida. It's unfortunate that they're doing everything they can to destroy the university I love. To those who will cheer this on and only care about the university's sports team, you aren't real Gators.

Don't stop with the governor. Florida citizens need to regain their sanity and elect competent problem-solvers at all levels.

As a long-time Floridian, I''ve been plenty disgusted before with political shenanigans but today takes the cake.

Governor may just appoint him despite this to save Uf. Will be interesting to see because that meeting was embarrassing for Florida.

What's to gloat about, Rick? Causing reputational damage to Florida's premier academic institution so you and you cronies can holler about DEI, merit hiring, anti-semitism, and gender issues?

DID YOU EVEN ATTEND THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA ???

I doubt it. If DeSantis was willing to go to the mat on this one, he'd have told his cronies on the BOG what to do behind the scenes.

And then he has a multi year fight with Trump to deal with, since Jr put his flag in the ground. It’s over unless something crazy happens.

    A particularly fun quote:

Stated right before a candidate that nobody doubts in terms of merit was rejected for not being consistent with their ideology (even though he actually sort of was).

Could be a way to go, since the Trustees were all in favor of the hire. It's not like DeSantis has another term to weather as governor.
Of course, doing so would cause some problems for Dr. Ono initially, but it is up to the University community and alumni to get off the bench and support U.F.
Waiting to hear what Hosseini (and others) have to say -- he was plenty riled up today.

I think DeSantis was hoping it would go through. He can’t leave uf without leadership for a whole additional year. The turmoil and turnover will be devastating.

Which politician now gets the job. It appears to me the so called liberal indoctrination did not take, or did not exist, because those making all the current decisions, obviously ave not been affected by it. Conservative once balance the budget. Now it means help the rich. Worse, they are just cruel.

The only reason this may be possible is that he didn’t withdraw. RD had to know the votes or have a good idea, and he stayed in. Maybe something was promised. But I am still trying to imagine a world where Ron goes against his base and the Trumps to help a university he has no real affiliation with. Just doesn’t seem at all like something he is even remotely capable of.

that’s the great joke. They want everything to be merit based and then passed on objectively one of the best candidates uf has ever had
