Blake Cyr drives in 4 runs as Gators baseball stays alive CONWAY, S.C. — Blake Cyr drove in four runs and Aidan King allowed one run in eight innings as Florida stayed alive in the Conway Regional with a 17-2 rout of Fairfield on Saturday. The Gators — who lost 11-6 to East Carolina on Friday — got a solo home run from Cyr, a two-run shot from Bobby Boser and a two-run homer from Brody Donay on the way to a 7-1 lead through seven innings. Cyr had an RBI single in the fifth and a two-run single in the eighth. Florida blew it open with an eight-run eighth inning in which the Gators had just three hits. Fairfield pitchers issued five bases on balls, two of them with the bases loaded, and hit a batter. There was one error in the inning. “First of all, I want to congratulate Fairfield for a great year,” Gators coach Kevin O’Sullivan said. “Obviously, you never want to see your season come to an end, but coming into this thing, we knew they were going to be a really difficult 4-seed. So congrats to them, first and foremost.

Later in the day, New York makes a better choice, selecting future Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan in the eighth round. 1968 Defying commissioner William Eckert's decree that canceled games only in New York and Washington, Mets vote against playing their game in San Francisco out of respect for recently assassinated New York Senator Robert F. Four of the first five selections, including top pick ASU's Floyd Bannister, are also left-handed hurlers, with the southpaw from Utah recording the most career victories (145) of the dozen hurlers selected. 1977 For the fourth time in his career, Nolan Ryan strikes out 19 batters in a game.
